Re: Newb's and lone wolfs, pls read.

Great to see posts help at least a couple of people :)

There's soo much in this game that one can easily feel 'lost' if new, especially if not having playing anything like this online before (like me when I started out a couple of weeks ago).

A decent manual would have improved online play troumendously imho! I dont think nobody wants to teamplay, but there's soo much in this game that you have to learn by reading these forums, that a lot of people who simply dont do that (for example, not good enough at reading english) simply dont have a clue of whats going on.

As for inconsiderate squadleaders, yes thats a problem. I tend to comm via chat if they 'act up', and simply leave the squad if it's a bad one. Propositioning forming a new squad, with defined roles using 'K' sometimes brings together a few good men though.

And dont get me wrong, im not saying you HAVE to be in a squad: that was my whole point. Being a lone wolf and communicating, you can 'teamplay' as well. Quite often, I get joined by another lone wolf (in battle, not in 'formal squad'), and wreak havoc. Just having someone around when pushing forward is a great help.

I think to few people realize the strengt of 'K' team talk, yes it takes time to type, but sprinting between cover, being coordinated or even just informed works wonders.

Now if only SpecOps c4 on enemy assets would give some points, my stats would be so awfull  ah well, just waiting for the patch it is.

even if you're wolfing it, try making a squad if there's a bunch of slots left.

make it with the 'customize squad' and name it after your purpose, like 'snipers' , 'base def' , 'asset assault' or such.

people with the same interest can join you, possibly helping. for example, a spec op going for enemy assets might be joined by an assault so the spec op will be more efficient.

this also makes it possible for you to ask your commander for supply drops, scan and spot, uav and such, making it more easy to communicate with the CO.

nice guide, digitale fotograaf, even if ppl don't join or create a squad this should help :)

Im really new to the game so I don't know if what I do is bad. I never join a squad because I usuallly play as Spec-Ops or occasionally sniper. Is it OK that I don't join a squad? I ALWAYS report enemy position and use the comms (no mike, but I type in chat and use the Q menu all the time).

Is what i'm doing bad manners? Is it going to be annoying my team? Like I say, never played an online game in my life before 3 days ago so I have no idea what's considered ban manners.

The main reason i never join a squad is that i'd be worried aboiut dying all the time and annoying my squad members, or not knowing what to do/ doing the wrong thing as part of a squad.

No man, What u do is ok.
                  U help alot spotting.
Joinning a squad let's u play in protective mode (see guys in a green tag) and they will see u, if they r ok they will work for u too.
U can also create a squad and as squad leader u have another radio (T key) to help u.
But communications is the key, don't forget to listen too. Ur commander will tell ya things....

I typically join a squad but end up alone anyways. So many people arent worth a damn and those that are already have a squad/clan. I forget how many times I've been kicked out of a squad because they don't know me. Whats sad is at the end of the game I have better stats than those people anyways.

I always try to "Q" enemy spotted, it helps out everyone on the team. I'll do a "lets go" or "back up needed" and just no one cares. I need to find a good group that plays together and appreciates teamwork.

SO....anyone know of a good way to find a clan or group that plays together all the time that I could join?

when i play lonewolf i form a squad and lock it,
so when the commander says "attack this position" or "defend this position" is he talking to me only or the whole team ?

                            cheers

Didn't you read the somethingawful article? "Never Join a Squad! - Squads are composed groups of people who are so untalented and crummy at BF2 that they need help to simply survive"

Jk. Good post. Also, many times the Q button doesn't specify which type of enemy it is, so you can hold q and right click and choose.

Even though I see many "ENEMY BOAT SPOTTED" on Karkand...

tournaments are a good way, they usually have a chain of command and are likely to be a nice community. i play in http://www.21stcenturywarfare.com/ which is an online tournament comprising of four divisions with 6 companys in each. 4 line, 1 spec ops and 1 air wing. you sign up in the forums and u get the teamspeak passwords and get assigned a unit. then just play with the guys. i think totalbf2 do/sponser one too.

i love it, ive improved loads as a player with the training that we do, u dont have to be good just play as a team and follow the orders given out by the chain of command. sometimes we go into the public servers and just kick butto all around since we work together.

                                good guide too btw
