yea, i noticed this problem over the last 3 days, i went of a of around half way of the dam in kubra dam map and owned my 9 key and it still didnt deploy

Yep you CANNOT open your 'chute until your gun disappears from view. Wait for it to vanish, then hit your chute key. Will work every time without fail.

thats not true either. i have opened my chute while my gun was still visible.

Ive had the problem where you jump from a building and your parachute opens.... then it closes... and splatt..

I have had the same thing happen of where it seems like it goes away when jumping from a small building....HOWEVER...

I have never been able to INTENTIONALLY close my parachute. I misread the directions on the airborne ribbon or whatever it was...so I took a plane straight up for far too long, then jumped out and hit my chute. 10 seconds later I got the ribbon, and I still could not see the ground. My first try I did a HALO jump - up same height and did a free-fall for 45 seconds or more.

Well - that whole trip down - which in reality took almost 10 minutes and the full round before my feet hit terra firma - I was trying to get my parachute to go away almost the whole way down and it would not. I remembered how sometimes it would go away and I would splat jumping off buildings - but was no good to try.

Oh and yes - before I get flamed - yes I admit I wasted 2 good planes - but they were not being used by anyone and the server was not full. I waited a good while into the round before I finally took one and tried this.

You have to be careful with the chute. It takes a minimum distance to deploy, but even more you have to be sure your not jumping into some confined space where the chute cant fully open, they wont open in that case and youll just go splat.

The only way your chute is gonna close before you hit the ground is if you bump something on the way down. This happens to me a lot on Kubra Dam.

I find that the opening has a lot to do with the distance you fall. I've gotten pretty good at jumping out of a jet or helo and hitting the 9 key once within 10 feet of the ground and making a nice landing.

Buildings are another story. No matter how far up on a structure I am, I make sure to JUMP off, and pound the 9 key on the way down. Sometimes it works, sometimes it don't.

You cannot be in close proximity of another object. You cannot jump and be two feet from the side of a building then deploy your shoot.

Also, I set my parachut keys to the left and right arrow. I jump then repeatedly press both keys. My chute deploys much faster and more often than using 9. Of course, everyone has their own tastes.

Looks like some of you people need help with your keybinds, I have my E key set to pickup kits off the ground, get in and out of vehicles and deploy my Parachute. I guess most people assume that you can't have one key do many things, but you can, here's how:

But first a mini system customization tutorial, the magic of Send To

Do you sometimes run across files that you’d like to open in notepad or wordpad quickly? Not the files with the proper filename extension but files that you know contain text but have an odd extension like maybe .cfg or in this case .con? Lets make this task a little easier by using the Send To Option that appears when you right click on a file.

Navigate your Start menu till you find the icon for notepad, right click on it and then choose copy from the menu.

Next press your Windows key + E to bring up Window Explorer and navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\[your user name]\SendTo folder, right click in the right hand view space window and choose paste. The [your user name] will be whatever name you log into windows under.

Now when you come across an oddball text file you want to open you can just right click the file and choose Send To>Notepad to open it up.

Go to your My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001 folder, open the file controls.con in notepad (using the right click Send To option)

First the parachute, assign c_PIWeaponSelect9, Then the Kit pickup with c_PIDrop and finally getting in and out of vehicles c_PIUse to IDKey_E as shown:

ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIUse IDFKeyboard IDKey_E 0 0

Save the file and exit, you now have one conveniently located keypress for three different functions, again this works well for WASD controls, change the IDKey_E to whatever works for you.

Yep, if you touch a wall, structure or ... other player with their parachute, your will close / not deploy. It takes a few seconds before you cna use it though, as per the note above, when your gun goes away is a good refrence.

heres my thoughts...u have to be in a open space for the parachute to deploy..it never works when ur like on the ladder in the crane and ur parachute is an object ie planes and crash into it..so maybe it cant deploy cuz theres not enuff room

I start pounding the 9 key right before im about to jump and still sometime it fails....its crap falling and you cant do anything about it

I wonder what this minimum distance is? since i've jumped of a 1 story building and opened my chute.
I've also had some rare occasions where my chute just wouldnt open, i know sometimes i hit a building, but other times -like the Oman building that sticks out of nowhere- i just fail to open the chute.

For **** sakes, bind parachute to the F key so you don't have to find 9 all the time. I did that the day the BF1942 demo came out and haven't looked back, and haven't splattered nearly as much!

I do the run and jump then pound the 9 key thing.
It works 98 percent of the time.
