If you look at his report there is nothing wrong with the RAM or its timings it is regeistering both 512 sticks and the timings are perfectly fine(2.5-3-3-7). I dont think his issue has anything to do with RAM. To me its seems more like a GFX issue and his lack of texture memory and his GFX card is getting choked

EDIT.. have you set your vid card settings to run from the game settings "or" a separate program like ATI's catalyst control where you can denote whether the game program "or" the Cat Controller sets the vid card parameters / settings ?

well as I said about Texture Memory I think that is the problem he said it ran better with 512 well seeing as his AGP aperture is only 64 that makes more sense as when he incrases the RAM the game is trying to utilize but seeing as his AGP aperture is still 64 it hits the wall real quick and start to really start swapping textures to his Virtual Memory
My Missus machine has a 9800Pro and yeah they do get pretty toasty and we now both have 2 gig of RAM but she had little issues with 1 gig on all Medium 2x AA 1024x768 but also has properly allocated Texture Memory.the higher you turn up BF2 the more memory the damn thing consumes to support the GFX

Then apply more "virtual memory" m8 it may help.

yes a good point it is much better to run all the ATI settings at App Preference and do all the "Eye Candy" in the Game Options. Well he said he increased his Pagefile but what he really needs to do is poke thru his bios and give his texture memory a boost (AGP Aperture)

All I know is... I think your crazy Mercenary for thinking you can run on all HIGH. I turned all of the settings up to max with my new computer and it worked ok here and there, but I got a lot of lag kick in when planes flew by. So I turned it all down to medium and I run FLAWLESSLY. Like they said, get off the fact that others have gotten it to work... you can't be there standing behind them and verifying that what they are saying is true anyway.

If you've just swapped out your memory then that might be why there isn't a change in quality... there's a process you have to go through to make sure the system takes to it.

You are right Ambrose I have X800XT and I couldnt run all high with 1 gig of RAM for the reasons I have been trying to explain TEXTURE MEMORY. you need ALOT of RAM to run this game period, at high even more, until I got 2 gig it was a bumpy stutter ugly. Sad that this game was coded to preload EVERYTHING(why its such a memory hog)whether you use them or not(that tree at the top of the hill at the back corner you never look at) unlike other games that dynamically load thigs as needed

AGP settings are in your BIOS generally under Advanced Chipset Properties. Also you should see if theres a Sideband Adressing option in there(it is currently disabled).A description below:

sideband addressing:
A feature of the Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP) interface, sideband addressing provides additional channels for transmitting multiple data requests simultaneously between the graphics processor and RAM. This enables an average computer system to display 3D graphics much more quickly than it would otherwise be able to.

Increasing it no affect the stability of of your PC it just allocates more memory for Textures(which BF2 will use ALL of it....)

Ughm...another dumb question but where do I find the Advanced Chip set properties?

Also, I dont plan to run EVERYTHING on high. Terrain I will have on medium, and dynamic lighting and shadows I will have on low.

Edit: oh and no AA or AF.

Nevermind, I found out where it was SUPPOSE to be, but its not there. And WHy in the hell does it say my Primary graphics card is PCI when its AGP. I changed it to AGP and it made no diff in BF2.

First of all you need to find the AGP aperture size setting. 64MB isn't enough for BF2. Most likely the pauses in the game are caused by BF2 accessing the harddrive. Unless it's a total freeze. Then it could be other issues. The proper setting for a 9800 PRO should be all medium lighting and dynamic shadows on low. You should also look into background services in your task manager. Check how many processes are running. Even a HP PC should have the AGP aperture setting somewhere. You can go to www.asus.com.tw and find a manual for your motherboard. You should also try turning fastwrites off. You can do this in the Smartgart section of the ATI driver. Come to think of it are you shure you are running dual mode on your ram? The 2 sticks should be in slot 2 & 3.

1) BF2 has pauses on LOW quality, it doesn't matter what settings.
2) Nothing is running in the backround
3) I only have 2 slots for RAM on my PC. And I'm not completely sure if it is running in dual mode.

they DON'T have my motherboard. Mine is an A7N8X-LA and the closest they got is an A78NX so I looked on that ones manual and reatrted my PC to go to where it told me for the AGP aperture size but myine doesn't have that option.

Edit:

1) Fast write did not Help, just made loading times longer.
2) I found out my PC is not compatible with the RAM.

So I guess I return it now...and...since there's no other gig for a $100 I'm gonna have to wait a while....

Rule of thumb for AGP aperture size is 1/4 of system ram. Ie 256MB out of 1GB. If you buy 1GB again later you need to go to HP homepage and look for a BIOS update. And I think that ram works, I think an Asus motherboard will run Corsair ram just fine.

actually I did it today, but I still can't change the AGP aperture size.
But for some reason before I enter the bios it says its 3.21 then when I'm in it it says it 2.53. Wierd....
