Re: 50 cal sniper rifle in action for REAL

That was sick.. shouldnt test on animals for stuff like that they could have just used barrels or whatever.

Do you guys even know what a .50 cal round is? all it is is a bullet with a diameter of half an inch, or 1 1/4 cm. Depends on the velocity and weight for how much the goat will fly when it gets hit, not the size of the bullet:

Lets say the bullet wieghs 300 grams, travels 1000m/s, goat weighs 50 kg's:

    .3 x 1000 = 50 x (velocity of goat)
    ie. velocity of goat = (.3 x 1000) / 50 = 6 metres per second

So the goats initial velocity will be around 6 metres per second, but again, that has nothing to do with the size of the .50 cal round. It depends on the velocity and weight, Im not sure how much bullets weigh, but .50 cal would be alot heavier than other bullets and thats the only reason why it would make the dear fly further when it gets hit.

The reason I posted it was for peoples curiosity, to see a real example of how deadly a high velosity/high calibre bullit can be.

      P.S

The person firing the gun is a hunter he is hunting thats what rifles of that kind are for lol.

      Welcome to reality people kill.
You really have some issues, don't you? When watching your behavior, it would be better for all, if you didn't post at all. If you consider that as hunting, I have to assume, that you don't have the faintest idea about hunting.

I have seen, thank you very much. I don't see, what that has to do with my doubts about .50 cal bullets effect on goat.

          Well...

I did some searching and found out that .50 caliber bullet weights from about 550 grains to bit over 800 grains(god I hate these UK/US measuring system, trnasfer to METRIC SYSTEM already!).

That link leads to calculator which says that 800 grains is ~52 grams.

Here it says that bullets muzzle velocity would be 854 m/s with M33 ball-round. As I have no idea how much that kind of bullet weights, I think we can use that 52 grams as differences shouldn't be that dramatical.

Physics isn't my strongest subject, but that kind of energy/mass calculations doesn't look familiar. Are you sure these kind of calculations work that way?

Anyway, with your formula that poor goat would be slinged in 0.88 m/s motion. Of course you have to consider few other facts which are bullet slowing down during it's flight as well as how bullets energy is divided when hit occurs. As bullet is such a small projectile when comparing to goat, most of it's energy is wasted in penetrating that goat. I just don't see .50 caliber bullet throwing 50 kg object around like that. I should say that it's not possible by the laws of physics.

However, it's well know fact that for example .338 caliber rifle bullet doesn't really move 80kg human body even when it's fired from close range. That kind of bullet would weight about 200-250 grains. Even multiplying that by 4 and taking few kilos away from that 80 kg doesn't really convince me. I could believe that if we would talk about 30 mm explosive rounds or something like that, but I don't really believe that .50 caliber bullet just has enough motion energy to rip a goat apart like that and send that ripped carcass flying trough the air.

We can either send this dilemma to Mythbusters or I can ask some friend more intelligent than I to do some calculations:)

its really basic physics, remember newtons law that momentum is conserved? thats what that equation is since momentum = mass x weight

If the weight of the bullet is 50 grams.. well that would make travel at 30 m/s that cant be right.. maybe the dear isnt 50kg? I dunno but the rule that momentum is conserved means thats what the dears momentum would be exactly what I calculated.

Keep in mind the dear doesnt fly 30 metres, thats just its initial velocity.

Considering the damage of the BH minguns, then the M95 should also do some crasy damage, and with splatter effect too...

goats don't just explode like that, sure they might be ripped apart, but dude, those were explosions, on the last few shots you can even see orange flames. sounds real fake

Someone get an M95 and shoot at some things to clear this mess up. Kind of strange how a game can get you so interested in these things in life... very interesting.

                        Greetings

I have issues because I posted a video on a forum do I, Well I must go see a psychologist asap then pfffft.

What is it you dont understand about the fact I had nothing todo with the video except posting it here lol.

Anyhoooo someone mentions that there are flames seen in one of the shots,What you are seeing is animal body fat splattering.

When you or any animal is hit with a high calibre high velocity round you will splatter in same manner, It will tear you to pieces.

As for my behavior here I think I'm well behaved compared to some loonies/idiots and other malingerers there are here lol.

Take a deep breath and relax its just a forum for sharing information.

All i know is wether or not that was a .50 cal gun, a real one would do some serious damage to a goat or person. end of story. You aint going to live to tell the tale if you got shot by one

As I said, I'm not good at physics and especially not when speaking about it in English(is there anything HVAC related in BF 2?). However, I just watched part of that Mythbusters episode where they shot pigs corpse with numerous weapons. I'm quite sure being right when I say, that 50 kg's of living animal won't be ripped and thrown away that way. I just don't believe that 50 grams of metal would carry enough motion energy to throw 50 kg's of animal that way.

Bullet's energy is focused on such a small area, that... No, it just can't be true. If that was a rabbit or something like that size, I could believe that, but 50 kg mountain goat? Not likely...

PS. When I calculate (0.052 kg * 854 m/s)/50 kg = 0.89 m/s, not 30 m/s. That could be momentarily velocity of that corpse in IDEAL conditions, where pressure of the hit would be divided evenly throughout on side of the target. With bullets, that's never possible, so I don't see any reason to continue this.
