Wrecko has a good point tho, if you do ever try to engage in conversation, everyone has about half a second to read it before it's cut out by all the other info (especially on a 64 player server). Maybe there should be a little bit underneath that is reserved for chat comments?

Alternatively you could just play on one or a few servers a lot (prob clan servers are best) and get to know the regulars.
'Tis a shame tho, 'cos I used to play cs and et and you could always have a chat with most people.

actualy most fgames are like that.... for the first year theyre aint too much chatting.. few months maybe even.. BF1942 wasnt always like that.. once u start making friends or being seen around often eough.. or people are comfortable enough playing and watchign the chat screen then BF2 should chat just as muhc...

and BTW the real chat in BF2 is with a microphone add a completely different experience to the game ..

as well.. theres alot of different countrys and laguages playing this version over the older ones.. when u say somethign to them.. and htey dont understand it they will either not reply or rely and u wont understand them anyways...

besides.. its a game.. u want someone to talk to get off ur ass and get a girlfriend.

Maybe all of us should all go into the same server at the same time and have a good team game sometime?

I would think TotalBF2 has his own server by now, if not, nevermind.

But yes.. i share the opinion that the people playing BF2 are generally much less nice then the ones that played bf1942, knife fight? Forget it, granade launcher up your ass instead :hmm:

Re: what happend to the battlefield community?

yeah there are a number of reasons for the lack of chat, to recap:

                - messages leave the screen too quickly so often you message is never noticed (or you don't see someone else's message)

                - Stats mean people get too excited about tk's etc and just get unpleasant

                - a lot of new players, especially kids, attracted to a big game like BF2, and unfortunately kids these days are ruder and more stupid than ever (or maybe I am just getting old)

                - you can't post end of round messages in between games. This is one of the biggest chat killers IMO. Because a few friendly chats at the end of a game means that there are more likely to be friendly chats in-game for the next round.

oh well. Don't see any of these things being addressed in the future by EA. But at least the stupid kids will either stop playing when the next 'big' game comes out or they'll grow up.

Re: what happend to the battlefield community?

Stats is to blame. Most people want to get more points so they can get a new gun and a new rank, also they can look at their stats and beat off (lol)

Plus people are concentrating on getting such and such badge, medal, ribbon to care about winning the round or talking to people.

Shame really, I wish they would just do away with stats

Re: what happend to the battlefield community?

My opinion: It's mainly the obsession with stats, which frankly I don't give a damn about, and it's also got to do with BF2 taking annoying kids away from the CS community (which was EA's goal), and having a seperated "Game Message" and "Text Chatter" boxes might help, so the guy spamming medpacks doesn't erase all our text. And the bug where when you type 'e', you exit the vehicle, that can't be helping.

the cookies are actually pretty bad...and the milk is always off

I haven't read through this whole thread so apologies if i am restating an arguement/point. I am new to online gaming, bf2 is my first go, but i have been really dissappointed by the lack of 'chat' of any sort. I like to kid people on, or compliment them on their ability but no one ever replies. Even taking into account differing languages etc no one bothers. If i get taken out in what i think is a clever or skillful way i try to give 'props' to whoever did it, or have a laugh if something 'stoopid' happens but everyone is too busy looking for that next kill to bother. So it doesn't give you much of a community spirit which i think was present in other games played online....or so i heard

If i see a good shot, ill comment, if im watching from caommader view, zoomed right in , and one of our players does well, ill comment, if the game was a good one when i leave, ill always say god game! Usually get a reply if i know the people on too. Find a good server, stick with it, get to know the guys on there, and you'll have a really good game most of the time
