@KingOfKhaos: I WISH this could be done via the sound settings. All you get for game sound options are hardware vs software (i.e. 3d surround vs 2d stereo), # of channels, EAX on/off, and volumes for sounds, music, and voice.
These tweaks let you play with some very advanced audio details regarding the balance between 2d audio effects and 3d audio effects, reverb level and other parameters, doppler, and a bunch of things I haven't figured out yet.
@bosx2: You will only hear the 'sonar' sound in menu when you are actually inside a building that would cause you to hear EAX effects while playing.
Go into a building where you get some nice reverb, and then go to the menu. Voila.

Yeah, lots of people have that problem. I use the original BF2OpenAL.dll personally. I don't have an Audigy 2 so I don't think it works well for me anyway.
