If you want to manage your squad click on manage squad (refering to the #2 post)
IF your commander asks oh wait i mean orders you to do something you should do
your best to do it. IF you can't do it at the moment get on VoIP and tell him. (thats your V button on your keyboard) Squad leaders expect too much from commanders but never give them enough information to make educated decisions. As far as i am concerned a commander is as only good as his squad leaders. Hence the whole "teamwork" thing.

I spend 95% of my playing time in a squad. Teamwork is absolutely key to winning rounds. That said though, it is fun every now and again to just go off by myself and not have to worry about anyone else. I'm a lone wolf when I want to fly a jet all round, or find a nice hiding spot and snipe from it and not move, or plant c4 on a road and wait for an enemy vehicle to drive by. These are all effective tactics but don't necessarily lend themselves to a squad unless of course you can find two or three others who want to play the same way for that round (which is rare)...

I dont because i not got a mic and im a slow typer also i maybe a - for a squad rather than a plus. I feel im better sometimes as a lone wolf, im get a important kill. I killed a commander bombing with jet 2 weeks ago, would I done that being in a squad. I give lifts to any members of my team and when im flying an attack chopper i think of any team members in the front seat giving him some opertunitys if not a lot. I tend to wander off which is not good for a squad is it. I love this game makes me laugh sometimes as it did yesturday when i got shot down on take-off and my remains of the chopper landed on the plane on the the carrier deck and blew that up. I will join squads when im better but as i said no mic and not good enough yet and dont like tk'ing

Which is why I'm in a Unit. Don't have to worry about mah' bros not putting up a 360 fire-sector, or missing targets.

...also, armored divisions are correctly labeled and the commander only uses his scan feature, leaving the other assets to request.

But, then again, that's with mah' familia. Can't expect that kinda' play from your average 13 year old who went and bought a copy with his savings.

I used to only join squads if someone invites me. But now that I realised commanders cannot see lone wolfs on the commander screen then I join squads. But I will not join a squad that has a unique name / clan squad. Or a squad only containing 1 player unless they are doing well.

I always join a squad if I dont forget to. If the squad leader is a sniper that just snipes I leave.

Re: why don't people join squads?

I like to win - and the best way to do that is for me to NOT join a squad...
#1 I can't defend if I'm in a squad. Squads attack, but are completely & totally useless defending - people won't stand around for 10 minutes, they'll get a rubbish score, they'll get bored, and you'll get repeatedly hit by artillery... (you also can't rig the place with C4, spam a flag with grenades, and you're LESS likely to get a passing tank help you out if there are several people at the flag).
#2 You'll usually have at least 1 person per squad in an APC/tank - and that vehicle is probably best used 'somewhere other' than your squad's objective. They either stick with you, and waste the vehicle [or] wander off, and wonder why the heck they're in a squad...
#3 Squads encourage 'flag-hopping'. As a squad-leader, people measure success by 'points gained' - the best way to do that is by capturing flags. Unfortunately, that has very little to do with 'winning the game'.

I accomplish way more on my own than in some idiot's squad that repeatedly leads me into death traps. Though I do sometimes join one on Sharqi and Karkand... Quite often I'll create a squad and put a lock on it.

The only time I didn't join a squad was when I was sniping. And since I suck at sniping, it wasn't very long.

Re: why don't people join squads?

I used to avoid being squad leader, but I'd alway join a squad. But after being on many horrible squads with a crappy squad leader, I've begun to create my own lately. I've had pretty good results.

I use VIOP which I think should be a must for squad leaders. I actually use the command functions, call for supplies, UAV, and artillery! It's amazing what you can do if people are willing to stick together, and the commander is listening to you.

We all know most people on this game work alone, but in all reality I believe that only snipers, pilots, and Special Ops. should be lone wolves. I can think of many times where I was playing lone wolf and came across a group of three or more guys obviously working together...I didn't stand a chance.

On the contrary my friend. From my experience it has been the muppets in the squads that have no concept of teamwork - They just run around getting their kills.

More often than not i end up as a Lone Wolf simply because of this reason. But i can also assure you that any surrounding team members are supported to the best of my ability when i am a Lone Wolf and more often than not i have won the round by this method.

Having said that i do not want to tar everbody with the same brush so to speak. I shall put it down to a wrong choice of servers. Indeed i had the pleasure over the last couple of nights to be a member of a squad which excelled in Leadership qualities and teamwork. Such a pleasure but yet still such a rarity! Shame.

If im special forces than i don't join a squad. as special forces id rather sneak around my enemy's base destroying artillery and scanners than be on a squad. the best experience ive had on bf2 was at operation:cleansweep. i put three c4s in a usmc heli and waited for an entire squad to get in and then BOOM! incidentally it was flying right by a jet and took it out to. other than that i either join a good squad or create my own and play as support or medic.
