The daddy of the planes is the J10 its uberleet!

All this talk about jsticks is for the noobs, fly with the mouse its as good as any jstick.
I agree that guns are your best asset. Sure the J10 is the most maneuverable jet in the game. But, the bombers are great as long as you can either keep the fighters off of you or if you have a skilled pilot in your fighter covering your @ss. Now that absolute bullsh1t that you're spouting about keyboard and mouse is ridiculous. Pilots use a flight stick not a keyboard and mouse. In fact, I've managed to compile a better kill to death ratio than you with a flight stick. (6.15 vs. 8.09) So fly with whatever you like but don't be the kind of dumb@ss that calls people noobs for having a few bucks to buy a flight stick.

Well, I can fly fine. I just can't dogfight at all.

See, I used to fly 100% of the time in DC. I happily took on challenges from other skilled pilots and won my fair share of the time. The Mirage was my weapon of choice, and I got so good that I stopped using missiles altogether and relied on the twin cannons for everything.

I was an ace. I performed complex dive-bombing maneuvers. I studied dogfighting diagrams. I was the go-to pilot in clan matches. Round after round on El Alamein, I would score 75-0 (and DC had stingers that actually worked).

Now, well, I suck. I can't hit anything with the cannons (rarely get hit indicators, crosshair is too ambiguous and I can't seem to lead right). Targets resolve too late. Missiles never work. The lack of on-board radar means that I can't fly defensively anymore (I used to be a wiz with the radar in DC) - now most battles come down to 1) who sees who first and 2) who can turn tighter.

I am actually better in bombers in BF 2 because I can focus on ground targets and just assume that eventually I'm going to be shot down and I can't do much about it.

Those of you who flew in DC and have been successful flying in BF 2 - what advice can you give?
Being a verteran of the competitive DC scene, I can honestly say I have never heard of you. What clan?

If you were in one of the top 5 teams in CAL/TWL, please name it because I have no idea who you are and am just curious... since being you were so great.

(for the record, I was the chopper pilot for 'The Final Stand' for all CAL DC season.)

Our clan didn't compete much - we were in TWL for a while (BF Assassins), but our members kinda petered out (and our clan matches were on maps without much aircraft, like the version of Kursk that just had helicopters).

Plus, there are lots of exceptional players that never participate in clan or ladder play, me notwithstanding.

I can't tell you that I was the best among ladder pilots. I can tell you that I played on a lot of public servers across a variety of maps (including no fly zone) and experienced consistent success and operational longevity.

At the very least (and the point of my thread, btw) much greater success than I have had in BF 2.

That's because people who are happy with how something is, doesn't go around whinning about it. They're called silent majorities.

Re: Ruled the air in DC... don't even bother in BF2.

I made the conversion from DC to BF2 just fine. I was the main pilot for CB4 until I got bored with flying and switched to almost all ground work after season three of CAL. I didn't give up flying on pubs completely, just didn't do it as often. Now, I fly alot in BF2 cuz it is fun, until I get bored with it again.

There are alot of things you can do to track the enemy better under legitimate means, but I really am not going to give them away. Kind of useless for me to say that, but you'll figure it out if you keep at it.

DC was hardly a balanced game though. Mirage, MiG and SU owned all their relevant counterparts in the game. The Gazelle is ten times better than the Little Bird. Even the Opposition version of the Little Bird could take two stingers, the Coalition Little Bird could only take one. RPG and Grail reloaded 1.4 seconds faster than the SMAW and Stinger. SAM site could take more damage, had dumb fire mode, and a longer range over the Patriot. SCUD. Do I really need to bring up the Abrams?

I feel the DC planes were boring as hell. Every good fight led to a 20 minute circle jerk of each pilot hoping to wear the other one down to eventually get the kill...BORING; the radar was also too noob friendly. Having no radar and fights that do not use the uber noob canon of death like DC planes makes them a lot more interesting and fun, especially with heat seeking missiles (that take more than one shot to down a plane). I rarely say anything positive about BF2 but they did get the planes down perfect.

well buddy i dislike planes because...well its just a pian in the ass to get one. However i also noticed that the dogfights are ****. So i have a move that will help you win a dogfight.

-the minute you know u are being followed turn your plane upside down and pull up (this should send you into a dive) Then before you hit the ground level off and your plane should be right side up and you will be heading in the total opposite direction as your attacker

-after you this move it becomes a fair fight and you basicly want to get behind your opponent and not lose him

i cant wait for a decent mod to come out that has controls like DC. its funny when u let off power to the heli and it slowly decends to the ground like a fluffy feather.
