I find that you have to keep your jet in bomber mode when tracking your target, get into position and then turn to missile mode to catch em off gaurd. If you leave your radar on all they do is go in circles.

I like the dog fighting in DC way better too. The only thing that sucked is 90% of pilots had the fog hack running.

Don't feel bad, I can't even get the things off the ground for more than a few seconds before crashing.

There is. It's called the Smart Joy FRAG adapter. I have one and it works great for most people. I have an odd control scheme for FPS so it's not the best solution for me. But for you WASD guys, it works great. Here's the link http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?cat...=5438artc=3538. In fact, I could be talked into selling you mine for a discounted price since I'll be getting the 360 in two and a half months.

I consider myself a good pilot in BF:2 and my trick is switching between the two weapon modes. When I engage on a plane I lock on to it, wait for the flares, turn the bomb mode on and then turn the missile mode on and down their plane goes.

                Nevermind him....

I noticed on certain maps you can fly quite a bit in the no-fly zone. This helps when preparing for a bombing run. I'm trying to figure out how to rack up some kills too.

I noticed "skilled" pilots try to get you to fly past them or try to loop, when on their tail...I usually throttle back a bit to keep em in front or afterburner to keep up.

Well this was a useless post to an interesting thread...anyone else have tips?

I really hope that in patch 1.03 they make some tweaks to the flight models.

Well, I can fly fine. I just can't dogfight at all.

See, I used to fly 100% of the time in DC. I happily took on challenges from other skilled pilots and won my fair share of the time. The Mirage was my weapon of choice, and I got so good that I stopped using missiles altogether and relied on the twin cannons for everything.

I was an ace. I performed complex dive-bombing maneuvers. I studied dogfighting diagrams. I was the go-to pilot in clan matches. Round after round on El Alamein, I would score 75-0 (and DC had stingers that actually worked).

Now, well, I suck. I can't hit anything with the cannons (rarely get hit indicators, crosshair is too ambiguous and I can't seem to lead right). Targets resolve too late. Missiles never work. The lack of on-board radar means that I can't fly defensively anymore (I used to be a wiz with the radar in DC) - now most battles come down to 1) who sees who first and 2) who can turn tighter.

I am actually better in bombers in BF 2 because I can focus on ground targets and just assume that eventually I'm going to be shot down and I can't do much about it.

Those of you who flew in DC and have been successful flying in BF 2 - what advice can you give?

I dono man, I couldnt fly **** in dc. I loved dc for its ground and helo combat but hated its air combat. I had no idea how to do that, I hated everything about it, I SUCKED badly. I couldnt bomb **** much less dogfight so Im really glad that bf2 made air combat the way they did.

I use keyboard and mouse and at the start, flying jets was very unforgiving. I'd take off, but then as soon as I tried to turn or got into a dogfight, the panic stations would go on full alert and I'd plunge into the ground.

Now, several weeks later, I'm able to do most things ok and I've turned my horrendous 0 for 18 aviator kill to death ratio into 82 for 60. Not a bad turn around I reckon. I can now reload over the runways, dogfight and do most things without hitch using a keyboard and a mouse, although I will still struggle against a really good pilot using a joystick...

I've pondered over this for a few minutes now and i've come to the conclusion as to why flying in BF2 is more challenging than in DC.

ok is there anything i can get so i can press more tehn 3 keys at a time i dont play with the mouse it sucks. so i use all keyboard and i cant shoot my machine gun at the same time its rediculous. and the guns are nerfed on the planes as well.

I have about 230 hours played, even if I say it of myself, but I am a good pilot in a chopper, but in a plane I suck hard, very hard, can't hit anything, or with tons of luck.

I know this of myself, so I rarely get in a plane, don't like them, don't care about them anymore

Is it possible to fly if you have a controller?

I wanna see if I can fly with a PS2 controller.
