Ruled the air in DC... don't even bother in BF2.

    I am finally admitting defeat - I can't fly planes in BF2.

Well, I can fly fine. I just can't dogfight at all.

See, I used to fly 100% of the time in DC. I happily took on challenges from other skilled pilots and won my fair share of the time. The Mirage was my weapon of choice, and I got so good that I stopped using missiles altogether and relied on the twin cannons for everything.

I was an ace. I performed complex dive-bombing maneuvers. I studied dogfighting diagrams. I was the go-to pilot in clan matches. Round after round on El Alamein, I would score 75-0 (and DC had stingers that actually worked).

Now, well, I suck. I can't hit anything with the cannons (rarely get hit indicators, crosshair is too ambiguous and I can't seem to lead right). Targets resolve too late. Missiles never work. The lack of on-board radar means that I can't fly defensively anymore (I used to be a wiz with the radar in DC) - now most battles come down to 1) who sees who first and 2) who can turn tighter.

I am actually better in bombers in BF 2 because I can focus on ground targets and just assume that eventually I'm going to be shot down and I can't do much about it.

Those of you who flew in DC and have been successful flying in BF 2 - what advice can you give?

I have no advice, but I just wanted to show support of your rant on the short-comings of fixed-wing aircraft in BF2. :)

Cue the "it's not a flight sim" "stop your whining" posters...

I'm not sure that it's the aircraft as much as it's me. I just can't make the leap from DC to BF2, so I am trying to figure out what got lost in the transition.

Yes, dgofighting has been made ****ty. When I fly I just end up flying in circles with my enemy and talk with my clan about the weather.

I do remember that landing in DC was a feat which I could manage, but I can't even come close to landing successfully in BF2.

I do, however, have one of these pretty little things...

I know. I hate it when they do that when I'm the co-pilot. I get all dizzy and start to feel my peanut-butter and jelly sandwich coming back up.

flying is the bane of my life. I was flying with an xbox pad then bought a joystick and i swear this joystick feels so alien to me. I guess practice makes perfect im off to fly some more.

I guess this doesnt help u but hopefully my sympathy will ease ur pain

While on the topic of airplay... I do, however, find that flying helos in BF2 is much simpler than that of DC. I hated how you just let off the damn W and the thing dropped like a brick.

Always fly in bombing mode so you don't alert the enemy, try to get on his six then rip him up with your cannon (use missiles sparingly) and if you get into trouble, fly in tight circles while steadily gaining altitude... usually once you get into the 600-700 m area the guy will have lost you and you can go back on the offensive. Or if he's a noob pilot, he'll go too high and lose control...

                      Mostly, practice!

Weird never heard your name brought up in people who "ruled" the air, anyways seems like all the good DC fighters made the change to bf2 easily.

Re: Ruled the air in DC... don't even bother in BF2.

I understand your complaints. It took me a little while to figure out how to lead an aircraft with the cannons. I rarely get hit indicators as well but I have shot an enemy down without seeing multiple hit indications. The lack of radar is a bit stressful. It brings another dynamic into the game. That is using your air-to-ground hud while pulling in behind an enemy. Wait until he lines up on a ground target and then switch to air-to-air. You'll get a fairly quick lock and should be able to hit with at least one missile. This is becoming a very common tactic. It is far too easy for enemy aircraft to avoid missiles by banking or climbing but this gives you the element of surprise. Since there is no radar, anticipation of your enemy's moves is what scores kills. Also, your ability to prevent your enemy from guessing your moves is important as well. Use alot of negative G banks and climbs as most pilots will roll with you and will assume that your maneuvers will be positive G maneuvers. Learn to use your flares to distract a pilot on your tail. Make an solid vertical maneuver, half-turn and pull back around. At the top of the maneuver while you are performing your half-turn, use your flares to give the trailing pilot some radar clutter to sort through as he attempts to follow you. If he breaks off to chase a flare even for a second, you will escape. I don't think that I'm the greatest pilot in the game, but I'm pretty solid. I've got 1,020 kills and 130 deaths so far. I hope to improve those ratios greatly but 7.85 to 1 isn't bad. Let me know if you'd like to practice some time in-game. My nick is ||The_Animal||

I am asking for advice, not your nonsense. Next time you have nothing constructive to contribute but want to run your mouth anyway, spare us the douchery.
