It doesn't jam enough? It's a game for pete's sake, none of the guns jam ever in this... Its not america's army.

Nice to hear your opinions guys, I'm not in the army but I've handled the SA80 many times, and I love it so much. Its what prompted me to start this topic in the first place.

Oh and btw Robbradford, your first attached pic is called the L85A1 but it is in fact the amazing LSW which is also an excellent weapon. (which i think you talked about, but the picture is named wrong...)

Its a great gun. I love it and fire very well. :) Though it is kind of underpowerd. But its a balance issue.

I was one of the poor gits that had to do the a1-a2 modifications when i worked for the MOD, and to be honest it was basically rebuilt but the difference in durability accurancy and reliability was well worth it, great weapon.

As for the SAS not using it, if i had the choice of any weapon in the world as they do (i've worked on most of them) then i would'nt choose the sa80a2 despite how good it is there are better out there.

P.S to all the sa80a1 users who sent there weapons in for repair/modification
thanks for leaving your valuables in the butt.

Although it does have the skin of the A1, with the crappy round cocking handle, rather than the newer ergonomically designed ones on the A2. And yes I have used both.
In real life it usual take a 2sec ot clear the jam and forward assist. Not only that I have seen L85's firing 1000's of rounds under range conditions and not jam once. And why would you want to Jam in game anyway.. it's BF2 not AA..

I think it important that we don't jump of the media bangwagon of "Our boys haven't got the right equiptment to do the job and the equiptment they have got isn't upto the task"

If you follow the news you will find that in Iraq and the moment the British Army and Royal Marines have lost about 100 men in three years.. I would say that about 98% of those are due to insurgents ambushing and bombing the crap out of them and general infantry combat which should be expected in war. I don't think I have come across a single report that say's a soldier died in combat due a weapon malfunction and I have been follow the War quite closely.

Basically all weapons, doesn't matter who's or what type they are will malfunction at some point or another and for a variety of reasons. However what I would say that it a Soldier is more than well trained and knows what to do in a situation when he's and is squad are underfire.

As regards to the Metal Cocking handle or the plastic one. I personally preffer the Round metal one... Being a soldier isn't about comfort it about do the job. Who cares about ergonomic cocking handles when there many other for of discomfort that a soldier has to endure. But at the end of the day it's each to his own..

            Hahah, nice post fightorflee.

Can you put stuff in the butt? thats cool...

I can understand why the SAS don't use it, they won't use a weapon even if there's a tiny chance it will malfunction, they can't take the risk.

They don't use the magazines they used to.
I wouldn't quote what articles say in magazines or on the net either till you've used the weapon.I found the weapon to be accurate but prone to stoppages.
L85A1 the Normal Safety Procedure you have to forward assit now come on that should be done for you.
Very accurate weapon though never had chance to fire an L85A2 but heard it's a vast improvement
