The Black Hawk is a piece of garbage in the real world, not the flying tank you see in this game. If you want to se a flying tank, check out the Hind.
Well, the Black Hawk isn't any weaker than a Hip for example, or a Huey, it's pretty strong for a transport heli. But one thing, the hind is already replaced by some coaxial rotor attack heli, the Havoc is not the official russian heli like many people think it is. Check out the Apache though, it carries radar guided improved Hellfires (used to be TV guided) and they can destroy any modern tank with ease, i can't wait for EA to release the Apache in the expansion pack.

The Heli's aren't too powerful, air defenses are too weak.

                no he is right.
The Abrams(i mean choppers) is protected by a type of composite armor (derived from the British Chobham armour) formed by multiple layers of steel and ceramics. It may also be fitted with reactive armor if needed; however, this modification has never actually been done.
Fuel and ammunition are in armored compartments to protect the crew and reduce the risk of cooking off if the tank(i mean choppers) is damaged. Protection against spalling is provided by a kevlar liner.
Beginning in 1988, M1A1(i mean choppers) tanks received improved armor packages that incorporated depleted uranium reinforcing rods in their armor at the front of the turret and the front of the hull. Armor thus reinforced offers significantly better resistance towards all types of anti-tank weaponry, but at the expense of adding considerable weight to the tank(i mean choppers).
The first M1A1 tanks(i mean choppers) to receive this upgrade were tanks stationed in Germany, since they were the first line of defense against the Soviet Union. US tankers(i mean chopper crews) participated in Operation Desert Storm received an emergency program to upgrade their tanks(i mean choppers) with depleted uranium armor immediately before the onset of the campaign.
The newer M1A2 tanks(i mean choppers) uniformly incorporate depleted uranium armor, and the majority of the M1A1 tanks(i mean choppers) in active service have been upgraded to this standard as well.

Yep, glasseye is right, in BF2 BHs have chobham armor, they can take direct hits from Heat round with out a scratch, yep, i think that helis are going to replace tanks someday. (sarcasim through the whole post)

You guys got it all wrong they shouldn't make the helicopter weaker just more suceptable to different kinds of damage. As the helicopter takes damage it should get increasingly difficult to fly.
If you get hit in the tail rotor you start spinning out of control. If you get hit in the main rotor you should loose control of your attitude and altitude.
If that were the case we would be in business. :)

Proper damage modeling would be very cool. I don't think Dice will do this but it will be interesting to see what the mods can do.

For my part all I really want is choppers to get damaged at a level where they don't just sit there and take sustained fire. As soon as they start to take fire they should be thinking lets get the hell out of here not I am safe he can not damage me.

Amazingly, you and I have finally found an EA topic we agree on: choppers are ridiculous.

Well if everyone opens fire on them you can kill them pretty quick, but most people run away and don't try to engage them. The 50. cal mounts on the buggys do some nice damage to them.

I would love to see the normal support machine guns given the same power vs. choppers as all the mounted .50's

This would actually give the support machine guns more of a purpose than they have now where they are pretty much out classed by every other infantry gun.
