since my mobo "appearntly" only supports dual channel ram, i cannot put two sticks of 512mb ram that r from different companies together, so can only have 512mb of ram on my rig.....and what do u know, the game runs smooth as silk for me with everything on high!! try it, maybe a gig of ram is not all it's cracked up to be....

my rig:

3800+ AMD
X800XL
512mb of ram
80gb HDD 8mb cache
RealTek sound card

Ya, no way can you get smooth gameplay with 512.

I upgraded from 512 to 2 gigs... AMAZING difference.

I agree. I had to drop it all to low to run it on 512MB and even then it was bad, load times were through the roof. It would take over 2 minutes to load the next map with 512MB, now I have 2GB its loaded in less than 15seconds.

To run on high, BF2 physically needs over a gig of ram......those with 2GB use task manager to see for yourselfs. If you think you can run BF2 on high with only 512MB ram it must be constantly running from the swap file on your hard drive.

I got 512 and I have everything on low. When I have everything on medium it looks a bit better but it all freezes for 3 or 4 seconds when I shoot or a nade explodes.
Can someone tell me why?

to be polite mate what poppycock, even with 1gb of ram this game struggles with to cope with the large amounts of texture files, with 1gb ram you will get HDD stutter as it reads the textures off the disk, this is especially apparent when the game first starts, and next when there is particle effects such as explosions and heavy fire fights! out of my 1gb ram my system left me with 4mb left so go figure (you can check yourselves by bringing up taskmanager if you manage to get to the desktop with such a low amount of memory) as you can see from my specs i now have 2gb and hardly see any stutter apart from the occasional lag. How EA can say minimum 512mb i will never know more like minimum 1gb reccomended 2gb

I'm very dubious of this too.
I also think you are a little underqualified to call other people liars when they say that 2GB will improve performance when you have not tested the configuration yourself.

Personally I think you have a great processor, a great video card, but are killing them both by the small amount of RAM.

lmao, no way do i believe that 512 runs BF2 on high and smooth as silk, sorry im just not that gullible pal! 2gb sticks? i doubt it , i mean i havnt seen any if you could i think it would be very pricy

I've seen 8GB sticks but i think only specialised server hardware will accept it. Hardware designed to take like 40GB of RAM.

I believe you're able to put two different RAM sticks on a motherboard, but you might need to relax the timings. It might be worthwhile to fiddle with the extra 512 MB ram, but, hell, if you like it the way it is, screw it.

I have 1GB of Crucial and 512MB of Corsair Value and it runs perfect. The key is to making sure the specs are the same. You need the same timings, buffered or unbuffered ECC non ECC etc. If all that's the same as well as the Mhz rating then you're fine.

i really don't care what u ppl say, i have the system, i have the game, and i have the ram, and i have tested it...the whole fuking reason im making this thread is because im suprised 512MB can run so well, so don't go around thinking im full of it, i will take a screenshot of it on Saturday, and then talk...
