Who needs 1GB of RAM when u can have 512MB?

since my mobo "appearntly" only supports dual channel ram, i cannot put two sticks of 512mb ram that r from different companies together, so can only have 512mb of ram on my rig.....and what do u know, the game runs smooth as silk for me with everything on high!! try it, maybe a gig of ram is not all it's cracked up to be....

    my rig:

    3800+ AMD
    X800XL
    512mb of ram
    80gb HDD 8mb cache
    RealTek sound card

Maybe so, but I know it loads alot faster with 1 gig.

if u think spending $500 just so u can load the game faster, then by all means...

I agree your dreamin, if you think 512mb is good you'll shit a brick if you had 2 gigs of 3700 hyper x ram at 466mhz. KEEP LYING TO YOUR SELF AND DREAMING.

well when I had my 512 I had high framerates too, but when I was flying or moving from different location, it was constantly swapping the data from ram to pagefile (and it does the same on your pc).. and these swapping makes the game stutter

                    over and out

no way 256 is the way to go your load times might be 2 hours but the gameplay is super smooth, i get like 200+ fps on my x300pro with my p3 644mhz cpu so idk why these guys are wasting there money on this crap just gotta tweak!!

This coming from someone who says "ur" and "u" and can't capitalize or punctuate a sentence to save his life. So lets all stop being grammar nazis, shall we? Thanks.

That being said, I'd love to see this "smooth as silk" on that system. I doubt it is "smooth as silk" especially on all high. 512 is the minimum requirement, 1GB is the recommended. To top it off, mixing memory in general is a bad idea. Even down to the revision number can cause problems. Some people say "oh King doesn't know what he is talking about," but I guess I haven't been building computers for 7 years either.

I guess on 512 it might run o.k on low. I don't actually call 40fps smooth tho. I thought that 60fps was the widely accepted minimum for FPS games? I generally want 80fps for my tastes, but i get about 70 steady in BF2 on high settings.

BF2 doesn't load the whole map at the start of the game. I get a large bulk of lag at the start for a few seconds as i do a 360 and then small FPS stutter as i travel to parts of the maps i've not been. It's actually kinda annoying, especially when you are flying a heli. A few times i've been flying when the game stutters and the next thing i know i am upside down and 2ft from the ground. I have a Raptor too, dissable AV, and everything else. I also run a well defragged system.
