The best thing is always hardware upgrade, but the things you can do to improve you system are covered in several guides.

To get a general overview of what to try go here to the Optimize XP guide.

It is one of the better, probably not the biggest, but it has its advantages like it gives a good rundown on the registry tweaks not to use and why they don't work, even if most other guides still reference to them as performance tweaks, this is covered in the XP myths sections of the guide.

The guide covers things like services and which you can stop from starting at windows boot, and they also link to a more thorough guide, at http://www.blackviper.com which is one of the best guides on services tweaking/configureation.

You can also take a look at the BF2 guide at http://www.tweakguides.com/ it covers the in-game settings and which you can set to medium instead of high because there's little noticeable difference in quality but big difference in performance.

the last thing you said is DEAD WRONG. it is impossible to tell the difference between 60 and 61+ FPS.

I have a question along these lines.

Should your monitor display settings and ingame display settings be the same?

So if your monitor is set to 1024x768 @60ghz, should your game be set the same?

If i wanted, i could get like 150 fps by setting to all low settings, lowest resolution, and no aa or af. There's no point in doing that though, 20 fps or higher = ok, 40 fps or higher= good enough to run a fps.
                        i agree

You can use two different resolutions as long as the same refresh rate is used on desktop and for gaming (where CRT's are concerned).

ok anywhere from 95fps to 45fps (min) the bigger the map the lower the fps but it doesnt matter i still get shot to s**t lol
