this happens to me all the time, or the random crash, funny thing is that i can stay connected to CS for hours with no problem.
Exact same situation for me. I can play Steam for countless hours, ping like lower then 15 and its beautiful....while I can only connect to a BF2 server for like a max of 10-15minutes then i keep disconnecting withing 3-5.
I guess I'll contact my apartment people and see what they can do. They only have one service, but perhaps they have some strange firewall up @ my connection (I just plug the cat5 into the wall...theres no modem involved on my end). Hmm..I just dont really understand why its just my BF2 connection...the one Im most interested in LOL!!!
After you start BF2, Alt+Tab out of the game and press Ctrl+Alt+Del to bring up the task manager. Then click the "Processes" tab ot the top and find bf2.exe on that list. Right click on bf2.exe and click the menu option called "Affinity". The next window displays all the cores of your processor, you should see "CPU 0" & "CPU 1", and both will be selected. Uncheck ONE of the boxes and then click OK.
Now go back into BF2 and join a server, all should be well. You will have to do this everytime you play BF2, at least untill the problem has been fixed.

You positive this will work? Seems a little odd that the problem was the dual-core all along....
Kaosfaction,
I lived in Melrose in Gainesville over the summer, and had the same exact problem. I tried Bf:V and bf1942 as well, and they disconnected just the same.
I called up fusion to talk to them and they claimed they didn't block any ports, so i'm not sure. I just moved and am using cox cable and it works perfectly now, same pings as before just no disconnects. Hopefully the next patch might address it since i'm pretty sure it's a problem with the game's networking code.

Damn't....you know of any good LANs I can play at til I have a respectable connection? I just want to play an entire map from start to finish...just once.
Haha, that's how i felt. you never know, patch 1.03 might help you out. it's supposed to be released soon. when patch 1.02 was released i was able to play for about 2 hours without a problem.... then i was disconnected and it never worked again. i don't know, maybe 1.03 will fix the issue. i sure hope so, for you guys.
- I can join a game and play as long as I want.
- If I leave it for a while, and get disconnected through inactivity, I can join again, but I play for like 2 or 3 minutes (a random time) I get disconnected.
- If I restart the machine it's fine again.

I'm having the same problems and i want to smash my computer.
I am using Fusion Broadband's service in Raleigh, NC. It's offered through my apartment complex as well. Just as the previous poster mentioned, I called them up and they said that no ports are being blocked whatsoever. I can sometimes stay connected for up to 30 minutes. Usually it's under 5 minutes.
I've never had any problems with any other game, and I'm really frustrated that I had to pay fifty bucks for this piece of crap that I can't even play. Single player is a joke.
Grrr...1.03 better fix it. Until it comes out, I'll be playing DOD:S starting tomorrow.
