According to EA the new catalyst drivers for ati cards (Catalyst 5.8) fixes lots of bugs and stuff for BF2. Doesnt help me. I have to downgrade to 5.6 drivers to keep everything from turning black sometimes. it angers me. I tried playing it with the 5.8 and even 5.7 and in every server it would twitch out and the ground would turn black. hell with 5.8 i couldnt see people por vehicles. just guns and the boxes on the vehicles and just floating guns where the people were.

Re: The "New Catalyst Drivers"
I tried out 5.7 when they came out, complete visual corruption of BF2. Rolled back to 5.6 and I'm happy. Doesn't sound like 5.8's are too promising either..

Re: The "New Catalyst Drivers"
Weird when I ran 5.7 I had the same issues with teh textures turning black and a lot of weird problems. Have not experienced that in 5.8.
Another note, I've found if you alt tab out of the game whent he graphics turn black like that and come back it will correct itself. If you hit esc the game will crash.

Re: The "New Catalyst Drivers"
The 5.6's are the best for me. .7 and .8's shred my FPS, and i get tons of stutters - none of that with 5.6's. 9800 Pro 128mb

the problems of .7 were fixed in .8 only for the X800XT unfortunately.

Re: The "New Catalyst Drivers"
The mere fact that you could roll back means you didn't do the driver update properly, video cards don't like multiple versions of a driver on one computer.Originally posted by keelI tried out 5.7 when they came out, complete visual corruption of BF2. So here's what you do to get it to work.
1.Unintall ALL ATI drivers
2.Grab a driver cleaner like Driver Cleaner Pro, and use that to finish the clean up process
3. Restart Computer
4. Install new drivers
Do this and you shouldn't have any more problems with corruption

My game runs wayyyy better with the 5.8s. I don't know what you guys are smoking but pass that shit my way.
Mike, ATI gives a driver remover that works fine.

Re: The "New Catalyst Drivers"
this is what you do...
Remove your ATI drivers... COMPLETELY
change drive to standard Super VGA... or just VGA
Reboot...
now install new drivers...
Reboot again...
Done

Run 9800 pro ( overclocked ), 5.8 drivers work fine.
