VERY pissed off - New system, BAD problems. *chucks out window*

Today i dropped all the cash from my summer job on a new PC

    AMD 3500+

    MSI Neo4 PLATINIMU MOBO
    1GB KINGSTON DUAL CHANNEL DDR400
    ASUS EAX800XL 256MB PCI-E Video Card
    BF2...

anyways, i boot the badboy up, and i get this ********:

Now - ive read about lots of users on here w/ X800XL - seems its recommended alot, hence I got it.

Tried all revisions of mobo drivers, Cat 5.8+7+6 and the drivers on the CD, in ALL combinations.

Ive been at this about 8 hours now - Im going to bed, tired, pissed off, and wondering WHAT THE FLYING **** IM DOING WRONG?

im running a setup identical to some on here - it kills me to think i ****ed up somewhere (especially since I work with computers every day and do computer security for a living!)

Im not up to par with this gaming junk - give me a server and ill configure it 4 ways from sunday, but i couldnt buy a videocard for my life.

    My options are as follows:

Splurge and get a 6800 - i cant really do this, its another 200$ more @ the shop i got all the parts from, bad idea

Downgrade to a ATI-Built X700 and use the extra $$ (about 200) on more vid games..

Problem is boys - wtf do i do? I dunno what to do at this point

Please - no generic answers like 'update video card drivers' - In 8 hours ive tried more drivers and more combinations then any other system ive worked on before.

Same sorta shit happened when i tried the swat 4 demo too - bad card perhaps?

this is where i can get another card from, must be PCI-E for this board, duno what to get ? (or keep current and just give up @ bf2? :/)

    help !

Those graphics glitches look like overheating to me from your card. Have you checked the fan is spinning on the card? That you have connected the power to the card correctly?

What PSU are you using? It may not be delivering enough juice to the card.

If all the above are ok in your system then try it in another pc and if still bad then RMA the card.

The rest of the system looks ok spec-wise. Although what BIOS are you using on the MSI board?

Use the ATI uninstaller to uninstall ati drivers on your computer. TO COMPLETELY RID YOUR COMPUTER OF ANYTHING ATI. DO NOT USE CONTROL PANEL USE THE ATI UNINSTALLER. (available at ATI.com)

        Install ATI drivers 5.8.

If that doesnt work, return your video card and get an Nvidia one.

        Power supply
Best money is always spent on PSU. Make sure you have at least a 420 Watt PSU. Even that might not be enough.

Why the hell didnt you buy from newegg?

my bet its heat, I get similar errors if I clock my card really high.. so maybe the fan isnt working

you can check the temp with atitool to be sure

Its not the stupid heat its because he didnt install the drivers correctly right im 99% sure of it.

Unless its 90+ degrees in his room your not gonna overheat on stock cooling.

im sorry, but drivers usualy install one way......but then again its ATI so its possible that its a driver issue, someone i know had this problem and it was his card was overheating and it was new, he replaced it and it worked fine.

I had same problem with my 9600 so it might be overheating or driver issue. My 6600 gt doesn't do that though.

It's not bs to say that the psu is one of the most important parts of pc, try a look on any tech site and they all say the same. Have a crap PSU and you are asking for problems later down the line. To say otherwise is both stupid and irresponsible on a tech help board.

Plus as people are recommending buying Nvidea you do need a good psu as they are power hogs compared to ATI.

                      Cheerio,

Here is a link to a good ATI fan site,

Post your issue in the forum there, you will recieve immediate help.

Here is the Radeon tech support forum,

Radeon technical support forum for all Radeon products from the classic Radeon to the latest cutting edge family of graphics cards.

                      Another good site is http://www.driverheaven.net/

Terry Makedon, Director of ATI's Catalyst program frequents DH's forum so there is a huge ati community there. His nick is "CatMaker".

                      Good luck.

You should have gotten a Nvidia 6800 GT or 7800. Also 6600 GT would have been a good choice. I used to be ATI fan but now a Nvidia fan. :)

I have seen it on my 6600, though I OC the hell out it. I think if he is not OC'ing it and does not have the latest drivers, it is a bad card. My sugjestion go NVIDA, ATI make good cards, but has bad support(vary bad).
BAD BAD BAD and vary BAD.........
