Thank you for confirming this happens! Sometimes people just don't beleive you until someone else has the same problem.

I've never had this happen, but can you take a screenshot when it happens? Take one when it is normal, then take one when it becomes "foggy".

This thread has warped my fragile little mind.

The same has happened to me. I'm on a 64 bit 3200+ with an X800XL, 1600x1200 with most graphics maxxed. Looks great, but sometimes the fog is much thicker than other times.

OK here is a screenshot from yesterday compared to one I took just now.

            After:

            Before:

Notice that in the "before" shot I am much closer to the trees. But the textures on the hill are different and the trees on the top are much foggier than the "after" shot which is actually taken from a greater distance.

Not in the game....jeez. This is a problem all over the map.

Just when you think you have explained yourself enough...

clouds move in the game and so does fog. or its just your crap pc or you pay too much attention to minor details

No, it's not a minor detail when people you can't see are sniping you. It seems other people have the same problem. I have never had the fog lighten up during gameplay either...maybe someone else can confirm this fog moving in the game thing.

My PC isn't exactly crap, either. I just have more priorities for my money than video games.

The fog is drawn by the 3D card in hardware and is used primarily to limit your view distance and keep the fps at a playable level. Your 3D card doesn't draw what you can't see. It's probably also used for effect when the map is really foggy. In BF2 the fog barrier on most maps is acceptable as you can use the sniper effectively on pretty long ranges. I have also seen that objects will simply dissapear at a certain range even at 100% view distance unless you use some kind of zoom.I have fought tanks that have just dissapeared before my eyes when they are a certain distance away from me. Haven't found any way to remedy that.

So, does the game dynamically adjust the fog to limit drawing distance? Why does it change from map to map? Please read the whole thread before replying. I have already asked these questions a couple times.

because every map is different. not every map has the same level of fog or view distance. just because your view distance is at 100% doesnt mean you will see the same distance for every map.

I have read the whole thread and if you did the same you would have seen that both questions have been answered. 1. Fog is drawn in your 3D cards hardware (varies very little between brand or model). 2. The fog distance or barrier is predefined on a map basis and hence does not dynamically change during play.

No offense... but for the most part, they both look exactly the same.

In the top screenshot, you're a bit closer, making the color of the leaves on the treees more visible.

In the bottom screenshot, you're out more causing the color of the leaves to be hidden.

You can look at the top of the hill for reference and easily see that you're closer in the first screen. Not to mention, the fog looks the same there as well.
