Just got the 6600 GT but big problems

Ok geniuses 1GB RAM it is. You NEED atleast 1.5GB of RAM to run the game without the stutter effect.

Utter horse ****. You don't NEED at least 1.5 gig of ram. I run 1 gig with absolutely no problems whatsoever. Nore ram would probably help, but to say you NEED it it is ********.

So once i get my 350 watt PS and mobo, and another 512MB of RAM what is the highest settings and resolution that i could run BF2 on with smooth gameplay. My whole goals is to just play this damn game with descent graphics but smooth gameplay. It is really aggravating me doing all these upgrades for just one game. I dont feel like an idiot for doin it though because i am a big fan of the BF franchise, and i know alot of other people do it too.

Well the numb nuts @ Best Buy probably ****ed your computer up. They are retarded, so is Dell. Dell is probably sending you a 400watt PSU and a PCI-Express motherboard, which will then make your video card in-compatible with it (hopefully he is just sending you one with a higher AGP rating).

It all depends upon what Dell sends you. Yes you needed a bigger PSU, but not sure about the motherboard.

no, it is in fact the easiest part of hardware to install

and as far as the mother board goes, most older boards like your will probably have a 4x AGP slot, while the 6600GT requires a 8x AGP slot...while I do believe that your old motherboard could run the new card, its performance would be greatly decreased to match the board's slower speed

Yes it is running my new card. After it was done being installed I couldnt beleive it when i booted the game up i tryed it on medium settings and it was choppy as hell. Then i went to low and that was choppy. I thought what the hell my 5200 ran BF2 on low settings and i got about 25-30 FPS. I was so disappointed.

The PSU has nothing to do with the mobo either BTW seperate from it all. All ATX motherboards will work with any ATX PSU. You do need a new PSU for the 6600 GT **** what Dell said they aren't computer technians they just want you spend more money and order your parts off them. If its running run out to best buy grab 2 more sticks of 512 MB RAM and a 400W PSU from Antec.

Check my rig, I have full settings. Nothing less than highest.

I have a 3700+ and 2x 6600gt's in SLI and i get about 30-40fps at 1600x1200 on medium settings, so surely ppl with lesser computers can't manage more than that. Yes i have plenty of ram and a psu big enough to power a casino.

DEFINANTLY not true. The requirements on the 6600gt on the box even says at LEAST a 350W power supply, though I usually recommend even more to my customers when they come in for computer help (Im a computer tech). You may need a new mobo as well since Dell can get rather proprietary in on their mobos and power supplies. You may even need to get a new case since sometimes Dells mobos are designed for Dells cases and wont accept any others =\ If thats how things pan out than your probably better of building a new computer and taking as many things over as you can to save money. Hate to break it to you =\

Something's wrong with that. Maybe you should turn down your resolution.

I'm running one 6600gt PCIe card and I get 50 fps almost all of the time.

I have everything on high except the lighting effects and I'm running 1280x1024

I noticed a significant reduction in choppyness when going from 1gb to 2gb of ram on my system. I run 1600x1200 with everything high but textures at medium and have very little lag.

I have nothing against Dell's, but you really are better off either building your own (which i'm not sure you are capable) or buying a gaming rig (which you will pay a lot for unfortunately).

BF2 is really separating the occaisional gamer from the power gamer.

Dude 6600GT is by no means a high-setting runner, even 6800gt might have problem pulling it off single card. Set everything to middle for framerate, for stutter set texture, lighting to low, espically texture to low which reduce stuttering a lot, trust me theres no noticeable difference between them.

Some peeps can run smoothly with 1 Gig, others had to go higher. It just depends on what kinda software environment you have. I had a Gig and the game wasn't playable as the hard drive was constantly being accessed in game. Popped another 512 stick in the box, and all it good.

Yeah don't feel bad about upgrading your computer for a game, I'm spending all my summers check, well most of it, on a system I'm ordering tomarrow, and on top of that I still have to barrow 300. It's mostly for playing BF2 and WoW.
