Just got the 6600 GT but big problems

Hello, i just purchased the Pny Geforce 6600 GT 128MB DDR3, and i have some problems. First, when i started BF2 today i turned all the settings up yo high, it was stuttering like crazy. Did it for medium too.It also was choppy on low settings. Heres the thing, my fx 5200 could run BF2 on low settings with about 35 FPS. I was getting 10-15 FPS for every setting. I called the guy a best buy who installed it, and i told him that a message came up when i first booted the computer, it said " Due to your 250W Power supply your graphics card will lower its performance to sustain safety for your computer.". He said not to play the game at all and to upgrade to atleast about 350Watts. Then i called Dell and told him the same thing, and had me take the computer apart and go through a bunch of crap, and had me find what kind of motherboard i had. He said i'm gonna need a higher power supply and a new motherboard. I'm not totally sure if either of these guys are right, so if you can help me out please do so. He is sending me a 400 watt supply and new motherboard for free because of my warranty. But just in case here are my system specs:

Pentium 4 2.8ghz
512 PC 3200 RAM
Geforce 6600 GT
Soundmax Integrated Audio Soundcard
Cant remember the motherboard but i bought this PC 3 years ago
100gb HD

Since you have a dell, you are going to need a new motherboard because they only have certain MoBo's that can replace power supplies. The reason your getting poor performance is because of your power supply. You should know that, the computer even told you.

Once i get the motherboard and power supply how well do u think bf2 will run on my system and on what settings,FPS, etc...

dude stfu about the PSU get more RAM. Its not the PSU, or anything of that you need atleast 1.5GB of RAM. 35FPS is average. Stuttering is due to the lack of RAM.

The PSU has nothing to do with the mobo either BTW seperate from it all. All ATX motherboards will work with any ATX PSU. You do need a new PSU for the 6600 GT **** what Dell said they aren't computer technians they just want you spend more money and order your parts off them. If its running run out to best buy grab 2 more sticks of 512 MB RAM and a 400W PSU from Antec.

You do not need 1.5 gigs of RAM. My game runs fine with 1 gig.

I have a bfg 6600gt OC and I have everything on high except the lighting effects, and I generally get 50 fps.

the 6600GT requires at least 400W power supply, Id reccommend a 450W Antec...The PSU is your main problem, 6600GTs are real power hogs compared to a fx5200

and as far as ram goes, 1GB is all you will ever need...its called the "rate of diminishing returns" the more you upgrade past 1GB, the less performance you get for your money. You may see a little improvement, but not enough to justify the $30-$40 you just spent on that ram

I also have a 3 yr old dell and let me tell you, if you want to do high end gaming, build your own PC...Dell's hardware doesnt play nice with most upgrades you put in it

Well they are sending me a new power supply and motherboard for free so i can use this card i jsut bought. How do u think bf2 will run?

Don't listen to the moron that posted earlier tellin you not to worry about the power supply. You need a new power supply or your card will not run at full capabilities. I recently just got a new computer with 2 gigs as to my old 512, and it DOES get rid of studdering AND load times, but that can wait. When you get a new power supply itll give your card more power which will make it perform better. After you do this, get more RAM.

I have 2gb of pc3200 corsair ram, and I went from being last in a server and having severe studdering the first few mins of joining a server(with the 512 ram) to being the FIRST in a server when the map changes EVERY time so far, and I have ZERO studdering/lag even when my FPS drops down to 30 which is during heavy firefights with artillery hitting.

As for the PSU since when will you need a new mobo for a PSU? 3 years ago isn't that old especially for a P4. P4's are general **** anyway. The stutter may be from a combination of things but I gurante its the RAM. Go on listen to moron one and two here telling you that 1GB is fine. Especially since im running an SLI system, and an amd fx55 with dual 74GB raptors and still got the stutter effect with 1Gb of Pc3200.

Before everyone was *****ing of the stutter yet two people seem to think 1GB is fine. For some reason BF2 just runs chopper on some peoples systems and will run fine on others. If he wants to run his settings at high without stutter he will need 1.5GB and definantly a new PSU. the 6600 isn't all that power consuming it consumes less actually then the 9800 Pro does.

i bet you have ddr2 ?
yes the game need at least 1.5 gigs of ram if you want all setting on high.

you can run the game with 1 gig with everything on high execpt the texture(medium)

What cards do you have in SLi? If you have dual 6600GT's you won't get 100 fps unless you turn everything on low. Hell I get 100+ fps with everything on low also. Wonder why you didn't tell us you would run it maxed out 100+ fps with everything on high?

Thanks alot guys, but im not spendin the extra money for 1.5GB OF RAM but i am definitly gettin another 512 added on.
