Just got the 6600 GT but big problems

Yep another 512 will be fine.
The most I've seen my sysyem use is 846 with 24 processes running.
I however did upgrade to 2GB with no noticable difference.
I have no idea why everyone is so bothered about your mobo PSU up grade??
I mean your PC practically spoke to you saying your 250W was limiting the performance of your graphics card and DELL are sending you new ones free of charge.I don't see a discussion as far as that is concerned.

Try and get the exact type of ram when you get the other 512 stick.
I've heard this game doesn't like mix and matched ram.Something to do with latency timings.

FYI, you can get 1 gig (2X 512 dual channel kits) of any one of several brands of PC3200 RAM for $80-$90 at newegg.com. This assumes your mobo supports dual channel RAM. If not, you can get single 512 MB or 1 GB ram somwhat cheaper.

dude stfu about the PSU get more RAM. Its not the PSU, or anything of that you need atleast 1.5GB of RAM. 35FPS is average. Stuttering is due to the lack of RAM.

The PSU has nothing to do with the mobo either BTW seperate from it all. All ATX motherboards will work with any ATX PSU. You do need a new PSU for the 6600 GT **** what Dell said they aren't computer technians they just want you spend more money and order your parts off them. If its running run out to best buy grab 2 more sticks of 512 MB RAM and a 400W PSU from Antec.

My game runs fine on 512... :shock:
And he is under warrenty, he isn't spending any money.

Ok geniuses 1GB RAM it is. You NEED atleast 1.5GB of RAM to run the game without the stutter effect. My system is uber and I would 100FPS but stutter at the beginning of the round. As for the PSU since when will you need a new mobo for a PSU? 3 years ago isn't that old especially for a P4. P4's are general **** anyway. The stutter may be from a combination of things but I gurante its the RAM. Go on listen to moron one and two here telling you that 1GB is fine. Especially since im running an SLI system, and an amd fx55 with dual 74GB raptors and still got the stutter effect with 1Gb of Pc3200.

Before everyone was *****ing of the stutter yet two people seem to think 1GB is fine. For some reason BF2 just runs chopper on some peoples systems and will run fine on others. If he wants to run his settings at high without stutter he will need 1.5GB and definantly a new PSU. the 6600 isn't all that power consuming it consumes less actually then the 9800 Pro does.

Dell uses proprietary PSUs. If you get a standard ATX PSU it will not fit the dell motherboard. Understand?

Like I said, I get no lag at all with 1 gig of RAM and everything on high except lighting.

I bought a 6600 GT a while ago and let me tell you, you will need the power.
I had to a buy a 350w Antec PSU for it.
I would've gotten a 400w but I was running outof cash.
It might be a bit of trouble now but I can tell you, it's great once it works.
(everything on high exept for lighting and shadows)

Hmm. A 6600 GT does soak up quite a bit of power for what it is (supposely a bit more than a 5900 XT or 9800 pro). But its hard to say if you need a stronger PSU, but nvidia recommended a 300 PSU or higher, so....

6600 GT's can handle high in BF2, in theory, but you need a ton of ram to back up it up. Going Medium @ 1gb of ram is fine, its what I run. Also, optimizing your system could help fix the studdering and the what not.

Yeah, let me tell you upgrading a 3 year old dell is an expensive endevour...I found it was cheaper just to build a whole new machine

but now with nVidia's new 7800GTX card out, hopefully prices on all their other cards (like the 6600GT) will fall off a bit, and upgrading would once again be a feasible idea

(you can tell you really need to upgrade when your video card is not powerful enough to run LEGO Star Wars... )

Yes a MoBo can have 4 slots, mine does (currently has 1 GB stick + 2x512 sticks).

I just dropped in 2GB of ram and I have gone from a stuttering Low graphics setting to a medium/high setting that is very smooth.

I have an
FX5600 256MB
2.0GB P4
and did have only 512MB of RAM.

This made so much of a difference that I am completely content with the graphics and won't do anymore upgrading to the computer for gaming for a while.

On the front page you stated that you have 512MB PC3200 RAM. That is 2 x 256MB PC3200 DDR. Since you stated that your motherboard is 3 years old I doubt that you have dual DDR. But I would recommend that you check with Dell online or call them. If you have dual channel you need another 2 x 256MB. Make shure that your motherboard has 4 slots. Not all do. In my experience 512 simply isn't enough. Maybe you can scrape by with every graphic setting on low. With 1GB you can run everything on medium and have little or no studdering. That should probably work ok with your 3D card too.

If you start to run settings on high you will need more than 1GB ram and probably a better 3D card too. I have an AMD64, GF6800 Ultra, 2x512MB ram and run everything on medium, apart from texture filtering (high) view distance 100% and 2x antialiasing. As soon as I choose high on any other setting BF2 begins to use the harddrive during play and then I get studdering.
