Well they pretty much stuff IED's into anything. In soda cans, being boxes and newspapers... there's so much trash on the streets that anything could be a potential bomb.
I'm going to see if it's possible to add stuff like that.
I wonder if theres a way to make random models/skin, so that an IED doesnt always look like a watermelon, sometimes it can be a box or trashcan etc.
I was thinking more along the lines of blending them in with things... so they don't just show up all by themselves and are obvious. Adding loose trash would pose as a "this could be an IED". That's the problem with the current mines and C-4... they're so visible that the driver sees them before it's too late.

Ok ladies and gents... the mod is now in full swing and we will be accepting applications for the following positions. I'm very excited as to the potential of this mod. I want a very large team, but the intent and focus is on the team and each individuals effort. This project as I said is a tribute. Therefore I want to make sure it's done right, and as realistic as possible.
I see this mod as becoming one of the greater projects slated for BF2 and with a strong team behind it, anything can be accomplished.
The website... http://www.OIFMod.com ... will be up and running soon and will detail the various things we hope to accomplish with this mod. I'll post up a news report on when that site is available for viewing.

I thought about implimenting car bombs somehow. We'll first get the vehicles modeled... then see where we can go with that idea. I was kind of thinking along the lines of a suicide bomb, where you blow the vehicle up from the inside but you lose more points than you'd gain from one kill. This way it isn't always happening.

I know some stuff about the military, specifically the marines, and will research stuff. Im not looking to lead anything, just help advise and research stuff wherever possible.
Ive been looking at a lot of videos from iraq. It looks like they have unique styles of firefights. The US usually has a front line, behind dirt, a wall, or whatever. A lot of times they are opening fire on a building or mosque housing iraqi insurgents. Not exactly like the big furball that battlefield 2 is. Also Ive noticed that the 0331s dont ALWAYS go prone with the bipods and open fire, sometimes they kneel and take short bursts, like it was an assault rifle. I assume that the insurgents will be using RPGs, and Ive noticed that they have a lot more splash dammage (shrapnel) thats pretty obvious though, an eryx wont kill anyone unless its a direct shot. Just what Ive noticed form various iraq vidoes, wouldnt be suprised if one the of the iraq vets were to prove me worng.
Yeah, I'll be in touch with you Animal. Things do look great. I'm on MSN with the site designer now who's doing a great job (Flanary). We should have everything rolling very soon.
We could however use a dedicated graphic's artist too. Someone who can do banners, as well as specialized sigs for various developer positions. If anyone is interested, post the application above here... and just state that you are applying for that job. An example is a must.
Oh... everything is going to be as true to realism as possible. Weapon damages, vehicle damages (and armor)... everything will be modeled around the weapons true capability in todays combat.
We're also going to try and get in a TON of great new features that are not currently available. Some of these I came up with myself, some the community has asked for. Examples:
LAV-25... will now have a driver mounted at the front much as you see here:
... as well as a separate internal gunner.
There will also be a communications system where squad leaders can communicate with pilots to coordinate attacks.
As much realism as we can stuff in, the better. We just need the crew to make it happen.
ahh thank you, so this can be the new desert combat realism except more popular . One thing I liked for DCR was the tank crews. Tank commander/driver, turret gunner, and the 50 cal gunner. It was really nice having someone spot the people for you, instead of trying to spot them yourself through a little peephole. One guy was complaining how there was no rangefinder and thermal imaging, which would be sweet.
Might try sending me one... I'm just getting a message that you're offline. MSN: TJYoung80234
Positions still open gents... hopefully we see more activity here. Animal... I'm not too familiar with Desert Combat... as I wasn't much of a fan of BF:1942... but from what I hear it was one of the better mods.
The goal for this mod is in stages. First, we release a mini-mod that will give players a new realistic experience in terms of damages and player classes (maybe a few weapons and vehicles added in. Along with a map). Stage two will be an enhanced version of the mini-mod that will give even more options and new features/vehicles/weapons to players. Lastly, we'll release the final product which in total right now is slated to have:
-A dozen vehicles (new or fixed vehicles found in the game)
-At least a half dozen new weapons for both Iraqi and USMC.
-At LEAST four new locations. I wont spoil what those locations are just yet, but it'll be key battle sites from the OIF campaign.
-Along with over two dozen new or altered features.
I can't promise this will be a quick mod. I can't say we'll have it ready in a month, or even four. The more the community gets involved the faster it will evolve. So I'm counting on the development community to step forward and want to be a part of this team.
I'll get you guys updates as often as possible... though I know how people hate to see an update with nothing to show. We'll be producing as much as we can.
Keep in mind that even though this Marine Corps mod is set for stages... the OIF mod overall is going to be broken down into even more stages. First being a focus on Marines vs. Iraqi. Second, we'll be adding in the Army, and third phase may include British and Special Forces.
My goal is provide the community with not only a superb realism mod... but the quality you would expect from a manufacture expansion pack. All of course at no cost to you.
