the stinger love the taste of friendly blood over the blood of an enemy
Locked On: I Don't Think That Word Means What You Think It Means

Actually distance does not help with stingers. One time I loaded up Gulf of Omen, Jumped in the aa gun and shot at a mig (which was the only thing in the sky) all 5 missiles missed and 5 seconds later I got {Teamkill,Teamkill,Teamkill,Teamkill,Teamkill} Must have hit a black hawk over the beach or something. Any way the jets were about 150 m give or take a few meters. By the way time from map load to being booted was 15 seconds.Comment

Ya the buggy guns an the mobile AA guns are bassackwards. The only way to shoot down aircraft is accuracy by volume.
Hop in mobile AA as support an hide, then when you get lockon wait for the flares the release the hounds!!!! fire all four missiles. Reload yourself an repeat. Dont even bother firin your gun unless they are already smokin otherwise your just wastin ammo cause they can repair faster than you can do dmg.

4 Locked on missiles at a stationary hovering chopper an no hits is INCONCEIVABLE!!Comment

I don't see where people get this from. I almost never miss choppers with AA. (Jets are a different story, I don't even bother firing at them.) and I very, very, very rarely hit a friendly with them.
Once the AA missile is in the air, it looks for the closest heat source. If you have a friendly anywhere in your FOV, DON'T FIRE! If you do fire, and the friendly is in a closer/more direct position than the enemy, the missile will target the friendly. If you fire and the friendly is further/less direct than the enemy, but you miss the enemy, and the missile passes the enemy, it will then target the friendly.
I have gotten 20+ kills from AA alone on various maps a good number of times. Most times, without a single incident of team vehicle damage. It's easy:
1) If the enemy chopper is hovering, aim directly for it and wait for the lock. If it's traveling, lead it, just a very little bit, in the direction of it's travel and wait for the lock. (The idea is that you want to provide your missile with the most direct route to your target. The more straight the line that the missile has to travel to the target, the more you increase the probability of a clean hit.)
2) wait for it to drop it's flares
3) make sure there are no friendlies in the direction of your FOV
4) Once the lock is reacquired after the flares are dropped, launch one missile... wait a second or so and launch the other. (If the target is traveling and you launch both missiles without a pause between the two, you'll often miss with the second as the target will have moved sufficiently to make the second missile's turn radius too extreme to accomplish.) So, if the target is traveling, once you have the lock, follow it and fire... wait a second, while still following the target, and fire again.
Result: I'd say about 8 times out of 10, BOOM-BOOM, no more attack heli. BH's take a couple of more shots, and if they have an engy or two on board, they can be difficult to bring down with AA. But attack heli's are no problem at all. In fact, at the risk of sounding cocky, I have to say that if I'm on AA and I see an attack chopper before it sees me, the odds are overwhelmingly good that the chopper is coming out the sky.Comment
