I personally bought a new computer 3 months ago, i got a cheap mouse with it.
after 2weeks it was dirty inside, and hard to clean, so i got my second cheapass backup mouse, 2 weeks same story.
I don't think theres much difference between roll ball or optical, only the fact that optical doesn't stop working with dirt in the wheels.
I bought a BENQ mouse, for about 15 euros and it's great.
Maybe you could try putting mouse sensetivity way up, the standard settings are teribly low. and the guns in the game are super inaccurate anyway, just prone befor jou shoot and use single shot or burst.
Oh yeah, don't go cordless , waste of moneyComment

Best thing for you to do is go to the local tech store and put you hand on all the display mouses to get a feel of ergonomic quality. Definitely go for optical, and it has to be comfortable.
Thats what I did and it works just fine for this game since it doesnt matter if you have razor sharp response or accuracy.
I got the current microsoft optical mouse cause I can use it for hours and have no hand fatigue.Comment

I'm using the same mouse, with this plastic mouse pad I bought on ebay that is made for optical mice.Originally posted by AltiAn optical mouse will seem like a gift from god after using a ball mouse. I use a Logitech MX500. Comfortable, accurate and it has two buttons on the thumb that come in really handy. My hand doesn't cramp up after long hours of gaming either.
works good.

BEst buy is a good place to go to buy a mouse because they hav e all their mouses on display for you to put your hands on (and get other people germs) so i would definetley go there and try out for yourself. You dont have to get laser but i would HIGHLY recommend you to either the Razer Diamondback or the Logitech MX518. They are the exact same mouse (logitech actually just copied razers) but have different size and shape. I personally like the razer more for its traditional mouse shape for it gives me room under my hand to move freely. With the ergonomic Logitech you hand is basically glued to the mouse so you have to move your whole arm trying to move the mouse slight up and down instead of moving your fingers. Ofcourse this is personal opinion and it would be better if you tried it out yourself at best buy.Comment

Right i signed up just to answer this coz of all the bull **** i just read
So you are a happy gamer, a proud owner of MX300, MX500, or even MX700 (if you like laggy mice:) and enjoy that "800 DPI, twice that of most competitors' optical sensors"? Well think again because you have fallen victim of a cheap marketing trick.
Extract from Logitech's website:
"MX Performance: Delivering 800-dpi optical resolution ...
Logitech's MX Optical Engine resolution is 800 DPI, twice that of most competitors' optical sensors. This allows smoother, more accurate cursor control with large screens while minimizing the amount of left-and-right hand motion. By default, the cursor is also easy to control with smaller screen sizes, and Logitech's software enables users to adjust the responsiveness of the cursor to suit their individual preferences."
Got the catch? No? The optical sensor actually has mere 400DPI resolution, exactly the same as all other common mice, it is the "MX Optical Engine" "Delivering 800-dpi optical resolution", i.e. the Mouseware driver...
Haven't you asked yourself why is a special driver needed to run the mouse at 800DPI anyway? And why the hell don't they get rid of that negative acceleration if it is just a bug in the driver as they claim??
The answer is simple, Logitech's 800DPI is emulated by the driver, it is NOT real 800DPI, the hardware is 400DPI. What you really get is just a doubled sensitivity and mouse movement interpolation, that perfectly explains the neg. accel - when you move your mouse fast, the driver receives less input data for the given distance, and because the "Engine" works by averaging all positions your cursor falls behind.
right thats one myth out of the bloody way, don't be sucked in by all the "pro gaming" **** thats out there, a intellimouse and a MX510 or 518 use the same bloody DPI (and both poll at 8ms ....well 10 really but the usb hub rounds it down by 2 to 8) so pick your mouse on how it feels and how much you can afford and don't listen to this crap about "OMG my 800 dpi owns you!" coz its bollex, also a mouse mat is important too, but i advise not to pay tons of a icemat or the other expensice shite when a $5 allsop mat will be just as good if not better! (chessboard like is best for the optics but it hardly matters) (perosnally i own a MX510 and a intellimouse 3 and i use the intellimouse because it suits my hand better and also the logitech is a pain in the arse to setup, you HAVE to download the advanced setuping thing and set it on speed!Comment

i have a microsoft optical trackball (you use your thumb to control the trackball) i love it! - and yes the connectors do get dirty but you can pop the ball out and clean them with a toothpick in less than 10 secs. if i had to use a reg. mouse i wouldnt play the gameComment

investmentOriginally posted by angelofdeathyeah and a good mousepad will cost nearly as much too, but in my experience and opinion definitely a worthwhile investment- Property acquired for the purpose of producing income for its owner. Just as plants and equipment are investments for manufacturers, stocks and bonds are investments for individuals.
