How important is a good mouse? (noobie question)

Hey guys, a noobie question here. I just got a new computer and battlefield 2 and I've quickly realized that I suck at the game. My accuracy is only at 15%, and I was wondering how much better an optical mouse would be at this game rather than a normal roll-ball mouse that came with the computer. Would it be worth getting an optical mouse? Does it help that much? Sometimes it seems like I can't aim right, and the mouse skips around a lot.

Also, how the hell do you get better at this game?

i hate my roll-ball mouse always gets messed up and then dirty on the inside and makes it not turn worth a crap played with an optical and worked alot better

An optical mouse will seem like a gift from god after using a ball mouse. I use a Logitech MX500. Comfortable, accurate and it has two buttons on the thumb that come in really handy. My hand doesn't cramp up after long hours of gaming either.

optical is lots better than ball mouse in general...whether it helps u in bf2 is up for debate. i dont liek wireless becuase of the lag and the price and most importantly the weight...so i always have a corded optical to play on ...i use the MX310. How do u get good at the game? Play lots. be good at FPS's. memorize the maps...etc. etc.

That's another thing, stay away from a wireless mouse. Less accurate.

I play the game both at home and at my friend's house. At my house, I have a HUGE fancy mousepad and a really nice mouse, MX518. At my friend's house, they have a generic pad and ball mouse. I can tell you, the difference is immense. Playing with the crappy mouse literally feels like being crippled.

I recommend getting (as other people said) a good wired, optical mouse. I REALLY like the MX518, because you can adjust the sensitivity on the fly (two buttons on next to the scroll wheel let you go from 400 dpi to 800 dpi to 1600 dpi). It takes a bit of getting used to, but once you get it down, it's awesome. It's especially useful in tanks/APCs, where I can spin the turret completely around at high sensitivity, then switch to low sensitivity for accuracy once I've found a target.

Wow are people still sticking to ball mouse?

I got rid of my ball mouse like 6-7 years ago!

Optical beats ball in many aspects...
Not as dirty and faster respond times.

Unfortunately i use a Logitech Dual optical because my hand fits that mouse perfectly and i cant readjust to the other mice out there.

Plus all mice weigh diffrently and my aiming is se for just that weight.
If i would switch to a lighter of heavier mouse i would instantly loose my accuracy!
I've had my current mouse for 4 years now if im correct...

yeah a good mousepad makes all the difference, i like the icemat, although i recommend the icemat2 which is a lot bigger (bigger surface = lower sensitivity = more accuracy), also i highly recommend the steelpad which is the same size as the icemat2 but has a rougher surface, the surface is all about preference really, i just prefer a totally smooth surface, whereas some people like a little bit of friction

How much money am I looking at dropping on a good Logitech mouse? And I'm assuming that they'll have those at Best Buy...?

If you can pony up the $$ I definitely recommend the Logitech MX1000 laser mouse. I've had mine for 6 months now and its great. No lag, no problems with accuracy. Read some reviews, its pretty nice.
