I like to call it simply, the (NOOB TUBE) sounds better yea?

I can understand if a guy kills me with the AT rocket at long range seeing how the SMG's suck but, When he shoots me at point blank range in an alley and does not die from it!!! thats when I start to get MAD and call him a NOOB LoL

The "attaction" as you put it is this.

The submachine gun is so absolutely worthless that I'd rather use 1 rocket and miss, than fire the submachine gun on single shot AND MISS EACH TIME (they are horribley inaccurate). On top of that, if you do manage to hit someone, the damage is not enough to hurt them enough before needing a reload.

I use the pistol and the launcher exclusively anymore. The MP5, Bizon, and that squirt gun the chinese get are 100% worthless.

Some moron tried to shoot me with his At the other day...he didnt get the 1 hit kill he was after and just depleted some of my health...so while he reloaded his noob cannon I susequently ran over and put my blade in his ass. LOL...was quickly typed in so he knows what an ass he looked. If he had used his mp5 or pistol he would have killed me easily as he had the drop on me.

I play AT quite a bit and have used the rocket on infantry from time to time. Basically the SMG is so weak beyond close range combat some times the rocket is your only option. I don't like doing it though as I play AT to be anti-vehicle and I really don't like wasting a rocket on infantry. I really only do it when I have been seen and am being shot at by someone with a good ranged weapon. If I have seen them and they have not seen me I will sneak up on them and use the SMG.

I actually think the rocket power is OK as you really have to hit a player dead on to kill them so it is not really much of a spamming weapon on infantry which is an improvement over the AT rockets in BF:V which could take out 2-3 infantry at a time and got used a lot as primary anti-infantry weapons.

I would certainly not call it a noob cannon as it really is not that great vs. infantry. If anything is the noob cannon it is the grenade launchers as you see lots of players using them as primary assualt weapons at very close ranges which is the very definition of noob cannon to me.

It's takes some time to switch weapons and often I just launch the missile at enemy, because I couldn't switch to "MP5, Pea Shooter Edition" or pistol fast enough.. n00bish... maybe, but I don't like getting killed that much...

I use the AT a fair amount for one reason - if you don't your team will get spanked by vehicles. I start the level as spec ops, but if I see a tank or apc starting to pwn my team, I switch over.

Do I think it's a waste to fire a missle at a single person, yes, but if you don't they will kill you. The thing about wasting ammo doesn't apply on levels like Karkand. Every time I've played that level there are about 100 ammo packs laying around.

You are probably seeing more people fire the long distance missle for two reasons, one is that more people are upgrading to the dao which has even less range than the peashooter. The other is that people are getting better at steering the missle, so they are more apt to use it.

Nothing frustrates me more than watching a tank take out person after person and flag after flag with no one doing anything about it. There is a reason that people who use tanks have the high scores, because the are overpowered. And when you have a good tank driver who stays back and repairs himself, then the only way to try and kill him is with the AT. So a lot of us who use the AT are just trying to even up the score and keep our teams in the win column.

Heh I like the noob-tube lol! I haven't heard that phrase in a long time....

Anyway, your story has happened to me numerous times as an AT. I'm creeping around dumpsters, buildings, whatever, trying to get a shot at the apc/tank, when I get surprised by a foot soldier. It happens, and yes the splash damage vs infantry with the noob tube is terrible. In my case, which has happened many times, I don't have time to switch weapons. I'll take a damage assist over nothing any day :)

You can call me a noob, I'm stilll having fun :)

In about the last week, I can't count the number of times I've seen AT guys running around engaging infantry with rocket launchers.

It's a little annoying to line up on a guy and pick your shot only to see him launch a rocket at you, then *BOOM* dead. But, hey, it's in the game and it works, so more power to them I say. The only problem I see is, I think the people who do this are largely fooling themselves. While in a one-on-one situation, you've definitely got the one-shot-one-kill advantage, over the course of a round it's gotta be very, very difficult to rack up kills this way.

If you take into account the very limited amount of rockets you have before you need to find more ammo and the re-load time of the weapon, the ultra-slow rate of fire, and how long it usually takes for your rocket to actually reach your victim from your firing position, it must be very difficult not to suck with this weapon when using it against infantry.

I.e. - During the course of a round, in the time you spend re-loading, finding ammo, being dead etc, another class being used by a player that isn't even as good as you will probably have racked up an extra dozen kills or so.

I've been seeing this happen so much lately that I've started to keep track of the names of people who are doing it, and I have been checking their scores at the end of rounds. They are ALWAYS near the bottom when it comes to kills. So, what's the attraction? Are people just blinded by the one-shot-one-kill thing and just not see that, overall, it's a very ineffective strategy? Or, are a lot of people just playing AT because they enjoy the class and if they run into inf. they figure their launcher is more effective than the carbine?

There just for people who can't shoot a gun straight, FLAME away people!

As a squad member I will always prefer to use my primary weapon over the RL. There are assaults, medics and snipers that can cope with the long range fireing without me having to waste rockets that might be neccessary to all our survival when a tank comes rolling by.
That said I often run around with the RL on simply as I find i'm less likely to die switching guns in front of an infantryman that I am in front of a tank, which means sometimes I resort to rocketing infantry (like when they run right round a corner into you).

Jeez! If you are going to call something a noob cannon, get it right. The only noob cannon in the game is the grenade launcher for assault users. They tend to forget they have a bullet firing rifle.

I am an AT user daily and I use my rockets situational. On most servers I play on AT is not the preferred choice by the majority to play since it requires up close combat for a huge part of your kills. Just because AT have long distance rockets, they do not carry many of them.

So if you got killed by a rocket, so what? Rockets kill and I am sure your entire server was not only playing AT. So I am sure every death you received was not from a rocket kill.

I think the original poster's point was this:

If you see a guy at medium to long range, and quite obviously your smg is useless for that, instead of using your AT weapon, you could actually just leave him to someone else. Oh. My. God. Imagine that.

Like it was stated, you use 2 rounds on some random guys, then come up to a tank and realise you can't take it out.. well.. there you go.

Of course every situation is totally different and involves separate solutions, but largely that's what the point is.

yeah but irl, the explosion will kill them. in the game, unless you hit them directly, they still live.

AFAIK the AT class have the worst Kill : Death ratio of any class in the game, they are completely useless onboard vehicles, get no support points, often die to their ideal targets, have a tiny amount of ammo, no armour, no grenades and get the worst weapons in the game (initially at least).

AT missiles aren't particularly great at their intended role, so it's only fair they are versatile...

Well, try hitting a moving target at considerable distance with the guided-rocket, and then claim its for Noobs only. Its almost impossible to hit a walking target with that rocket, let alone a guy who is sprinting. The only time I get guaranteed kills with the SRAW is when a player goes prone right after he sees me, I just fire, adjust the reticle, and boom, he dies even if he kills me because the rocket is on its way. But again, it only works well with non-moving infantry, like snipers and prone support gunners.

Not really "easy" to get lots of infantry kills, IMHO.
