DAO-12 doesnt have the distance. When you are AT on wide open maps you need the RL to take out the snipers and infanty at a long range.
BF2, comes with your choice of noob-cannon!

Sure, and that makes sense. I fully realize, especially with the AT stock weap, that there are times when it is to your advantage to use your launcher vs. inf. as opposed to your regular weapon. But, what I'm talking about is that lately I've seen a drastic increase in the number of players that are running around hunting inf. with the launcher.Originally posted by StalingraduateAs someone who plays AT a lot, I'll just state that I have used the SRAW on infantry.
There reasons for this:
1. It's fast and accurate. I've used it to snipe people before.
2. It's a one-shot kill.
3. Sometimes there isn't time to switch to another weapon.
Most of the time, I use the DAO-12 to kill infantry, but if I see the right shot, I'll use the SRAW to knock them down.
It *seems* as if people are purposefully choosing the AT class in order to shoot their launcher at inf. because they feel the launcher Vs. inf has some sort of real advantage. For the life of me, I just can't understand how people could think this.
So, I'm basically wondering if some players are saying: "Wow! I took that guy out with one shot with my launcher, I'm going to always just use the launcher to go and hunt inf., 'cause I can kill in one shot." And, they don't realize that over the course of a round they are being much less effective than they would just playing as another class in order to do the same thing.Comment

Where's the problem? Sure, it's annoying to get nailed by rocket launchers as you're trying to get a bead on someone. But you yourself have said that you believe this tactic to be a waste of time, and the people who use it are always at the bottom of the scores at the end of a round. If you're right, you should be thanking your lucky stars that they decide to play this way, because on balance it makes them less effective against you. I'd suggest you spend less time thinking about this and more time just playing the game. :)Originally posted by GatorDawgIt's a little annoying to line up on a guy and pick your shot only to see him launch a rocket at you, then *BOOM* dead. But, hey, it's in the game and it works, so more power to them I say. The only problem I see is, I think the people who do this are largely fooling themselves. While in a one-on-one situation, you've definitely got the one-shot-one-kill advantage, over the course of a round it's gotta be very, very difficult to rack up kills this way.
As an avid anti-tanker, though, I can tell you that yes, sometimes it does seem a better idea to try and hit someone with a rocket instead of using your DAO-12 or SMG to try and get them - those weapons are not great at longer ranges.Comment

Of ALLLLLL classes, I hate AT the most. But I still DO get the AT kit if I see too many enemy armors dominating. AT kit serves me as a "scare" to them and detterent. You can't even get an assist after 2 rockets and someone else gets the kill or driver bails. Not that I will score much when I use it but my team will. It's called teamplay!
Now my AT SMG is total crap and I would use pistol or the launcher when there's no armor to shoot at. Simple, ain't it?Comment

I have to add one point: you are not able to steer normal bullets.Originally posted by StalingraduateAs someone who plays AT a lot, I'll just state that I have used the SRAW on infantry.

Yesterday I played USMC on Dalian Plant and tried to guard first flag on the left side, when looking from the carrier. Suddenly a hole bunch of guys arrived trying to conquer it. I ran left and right at the back of the tank shelter and took out 1 Tank and 3 Infs before my rockets were empty and I´ve been shot by an APC. There was absolutely no time to switch weapons so i took what allready was in my hands - the rocket launcher and it worked perfektly!
Especially while guarding flags it´s better to keep the rocket launcher chosen because it works with 100% of the targets and it´s the best sniper-rifle ever!

Yes but its different with a RPG, the RPG has different kinds of rockets anti tank, anti personell and a few others depending on what its needed for, its why its the weapon of choice for many forces as its so versatile and its also very light and easy to carry :)Originally posted by ScoobingInsurgency forces often use RPG's to take out Infantry IRL.Comment

lol @ this thread...
I play AT alot, and usually only out of nessesity - eng is 1st choice. But if we're being overrun by armor several of my squad will switch to AT to deal with the problem...
And when it comes to fighting the infantry that's almost always coming in behind the vehicles, of course we're going to use the AT rocket. Not only due to the fact that it's a one-shot kill, but have you really tried to kill anything with the mp5 at distance. The gun blows up close, besides having to hit something 100' away.
I might as well use harsh language instead of the mp5, it'd inflict more dmg. For me its usually AT rocket 1st, pistol 2nd, save the mp5 for running in alleys.
And the AT isn't as all powerful as you think. I plant rockets right at people's feet, only to watch them bunny hop out of harms way....Comment

A couple of days ago i was underway as an AT-Guy (USMC) as a leftover of a squad near a flag. An enemy soldier (a lone medic, i guess with L85) kept hiding from far this distance way byond range of my MP5. He tried to kill me (he was camping there near the flag - not bother for taking the flag). I kept moving so he couldn't hit me from distance - i took my rocketlauncher and sniped him away from distance. I think its legitimate that every class uses its sources to its full benefit. A Spec. Op. will also try to blow inf with its C4-packs.
A said every class may use its material at its full potential, beyond the 30 meter range the AT-guy has no chance with its MP5 so it is obvious he uses its rockets instead.Comment

As posted before, the smg sucks.
If as an AT guy you walk around with the missile launcher at the ready, if someone jumps you, you at least have the chance of a kill. If you have the smg you have to empty almost the entire mag even at close range.
On the zatar wetlands I was hiding on one of the towers by the main vehicle base playing a bit of base defence. As the enemy came in to cap the flag I would snipe them with my super accurate, laser aligned, 10x magnification PISTOL.
However when I ran out of ammo for that, I switched to the SMG and couldn't kill f*ck all. So I started using the AT missile against the infantry.
I got wounded, so I called for a medic. He climbed the tower just as an enemy was trying to cap the flag. I used 2 mags on the SMG and had approx 2 hits register (single shot), so I spotted him for the medic. one 3 round burst later enemy's dead.
The AT missile gives you a chance. The SMG doesn't!
Cue lots of posts saying "I had a 168 kill streak with the SMG blahblahblahblah NOOB" "learn how to play blahblahblah"
