War College Ribbon and the Truth

I know there is one or two posts subject but it contained mostly problems with lower grade math so I decided to make a new one for the people that are looking for information rather than just people posting page after page with wrong information.

First of all here is my stats:

Ok I have been trying to get the elusive war college ribbon for a bit now and I have tried to look at reqs and such in a more "serious" way.

But lets start with some basic stuff

    Commander Scoring
    -----------------

Commander gets average score of team and this doubles if you win the round. You do not get score for ANYTHING you do except negative score for teamkills. So help your team to win but
do not artillery it will just give you negative points. If it does not add up it is because people connect/disconnnect or you get teamkills. I have tried this throughly online and offline.

Any other crap about commander scoring is wrong

So now we know how we get our score. How do we achieve it?

    Ticket rules
    ------------

If one team has more than half the spawns tickets decrease for opposite team over time. This is exaggerated for every extra spawn your team has. Even game will last longer because tickets will last longer. Each kill will also subtract one ticket.

So no kills and even amount of spawnpoints = infinite game.

Now we can draw some serious conclusions.

    Getting a Good commander score
    ------------------------------

(This section is partly applicable to most awards that has pts, kill, time reqs)
(This is not how to be a good commander and not a tutorial to get a good score per time unit this section is all about getting a good score in ONE round)

When i started shooting for 50+ score I tried hopping through servers. I scored about 25-35 on every damn server. Even without timelimit! I started thinking. How can it be possible to get more score. Then I did some serious thinking and digging and this is what I came up with:

Pick a large map with few people and no time limit. Ping does not matter because you only command anyway. Also try to avoid clan servers and especially servers with alot of people in same clan on same team! Do not use Artillery. Only use UAV on opposing spawns and not on yours.
Help your team less if you are winning (no supplies no uav etc). Help your team more if you are losing (actively participate, supplies, uav etc). Map choice is citymap or songhua stalemate.

    Reasons:

    1) Large map = lots of tickets and more spawnpoints per person = more flagswapping
    2) Few people = Less fighting and less killing lower ticket decrease ratio.
    3) No time limit, no brainer. The more time you have the higher score you get. Some awards also has a time req
    4) Ping does not matter = If you have a suitable server with low ping. Use it. But most important is to pick a good server according to the other guidlines above
    5) Avoid clan serves = To be kicked after getting award will make you lose award. This happens regularly on clan servers "because they can".
    6) Avoid clan members in same team = Many "friends" can easily demote you from command especially because you are on a few people server.
    6) Artillery is no positive points. Only negative. We dont wanna risk that :)
    7) UAV on opposing spawnpoints. Flag capture = points for teammates = points for you
    8) No UAV on friendly spawnpoints. If they capture a spawn your team can take it back = points for you. Basics: We want alot of flag swapping for alot of points. Help on offense but do not help defence.
    9) Map choice. Aircraft do not contribute. They will not capture spawns. Dense city maps with undefended spawns and alot of chaos and bad visibility is best. My personal favourite is Peninsula 16 players on 32 map.

The most important to get a high score: 16 player server on a 32 player map without aircraft.

Using these tactics i regularly score 70+ commander points in one round before x2.

    War College Ribbon requirements
    -------------------------------

First of all the UBAR reqs on this ribbon is both wrong and/or incomplete.

After thinking, and doing some comparisons I came up with the following:

If you wanna do this yourself my tip is to check the "official" requirements and match those with the UBAR reqs on other awards (like expert command and such). From this you can draw some serious conclusions:

I came up with the following requirements for War College Ribbon

    33-35 minutes on the round
    50-60 points on the round
    12000-15000 points total

(Note: If you need a commander score you need to achieve it during the round not at the score board so forget x2. Do not play to win. Play to make a long even game.)

    I have achieved:
40 minute round with 90 points and I have 11000 commander points

and for the ubar believers I had a 3.1 K/D

(note: No other award has a K/D requirement and I dont think the lazy dice boys did something special for this one)

I do not have the ribbon yet.

I think it requires some more total command score and my guess is 14000 or 15000.

It cannot be more because G151135 or whatever his name is has 15000 just barely and he has the ribbon.

I hope this clears up alot of stuff for you guys. I will post when get the ribbon.

    Update:

I have had a 40 minute game with 90 points and 3.03 K/D, 15000 total points and 100+ hours as commander. There must be some other strange req we dont know about

No. You get your teams average score as points. If your team captures a flag you will get points for that. If your team kills someone you will get points for that. But the key thing here is that if your team kills someone opposing team lose a ticket and therefore it will shorten the game and will give you less time to get more score.

Look at it this way. 200 tickets 32 players map with only score due to kills for your team (no captures, heals, tks etc etc) . 200 kills gives 200 * 2 / 15 = 26.6 points for you. (*2 is for 2 points / kill. 15 because you are not counted when it comes to players on your team 32/2-1). So on a dense karkand game with no captures you cannot expect more than 30 points. You need to get a substantial increase score because of captures to score 50+ points.

This is hopefully all crystal by now to the bright boys and girls out there :)

Another good reason for not using arty is that it will decrease the tickets for the opposing team, without giving you any points as well as decreasing game time.

If going for the war college ribbon the only time you should use arty would be if the guys at UBAR are indeed right and you need that 3/1 KD ratio. However, the accuracy of that site is still under speculation.

great job man, but i dont think the global point requirement is that high.

            http://bf2s.com/player/[THC]Hunter-command/

He has 13000 and some change, and he got the ribbon a few days ago, so we can assume he was at around 12000 max. Plus, like ive said, there must be something else to the equation if only 2 of the top 100 commanders have this ribbon. i mean these guys have 25000+ commander points, and im sure at one time or another they must have gotten 70 commander points in a round. also, G3157, who posts on planetbattlefield said he got his ribbon at around 45 points in the round..

Enemies killed by friendlies in your UAV zone or spotted by you will give you points....

Im not 100% sure but i think that you can get score by setting off an UAV and then artillerying

I was going for the Staff Officer RIbbon, so yesterday I had like 47 points(50 req)...so I'm like, "I can't use artillary, cuz if I TK, I will lose points....plus, the round was close to end"...I used the artillary at some friendly flag that was about to be taken over....got -4 somehow, probably one of my guys spawned there and got killed...well, after that I had 47-4 = 43, got a few more points, 47 again, the round ended and we won, for some reason when I got x2, it was 99 points...I was so pissed though, cuz I could've had the ribbon

btw, can somebody tell me exactly how the commander score works...because I thought that u only get points for kills in the UAV zone

Please atleast read the first post in a thread before you post in it. Maybe you should lay off the smoking for a while

                  @ StuBlueShoe

Good point. I forgot to mention that. On the other hand if you read the rest of my post its pretty obvious. Same reason is that you should not kill people yourself.

                  @ PBAsydney

Did you bother to read my post? I tried this. Alot of the experienced players tried it. Your point is average of team points. Period. Man what is wrong with you people?

just to play devil's advocate for a sec: this sort of sounds like a mild version of point farming. i mean, dragging out the game as long as you can by being a less effective commander just so you can get more points? even if your team is winning, i'd still want my commander to use UAVs to let me know where the remainder of the enemy troops are and drop supplies. just cuz we're winning doesn't mean i don't need supplies or a heads up on the enemy. not trying to flame here, just offering a different perspective on this concept.

                      @ Bird of Prey

Did you read my post? Ofcourse its point farming. Sole objective is to get high score. Is it exploiting or cheating? Absolutely not. It would be the same as saying: Shooting back on an enemy is point farming. Another point is that your score is exactly the average of your teams score. So if they do good score wise you do good score wise. I knew alot of you would start flaming me. I pointed out clearly that the objective of my post was how to get the awards that required an insanely high commander score that is not possible to get without playing in a specific way in a specific environment. I never said I recomended the regular commander to go out and play like this on a regular basis. I never said it was a good way to play for the team. I never said that it was the best tactic for a commander. I never said it was the way you get most points as commander per time unit.

Oh and one more thing. Commander is the only person that benefits if the team wins (which bad game design imo). One of the key ideas in my tactic is to keep the game even. Even game = risk of loss for your team = less points for you if you lose. So using the tactics in my post is actually a real crappy way to play if you want to increase your score/rank as commander.

Now I dont wanna read any more posts in this thread that states anything in the lines of the following. If you wanna post stuf like this do it elsewhere please.

                      Example #1

"I know you get points as commander for jumping up and down on a supply drop as engineer with your monitor off. But only if your artillery is destroyed. OMFG I r teh l33t"

                      Example #2

"1:3 K/D ratio means 1 rate per killdeath under divison of fraction"

                      / Deus

do you really think shooting back at the enemy is point farming? that's absurd. you admit your tactic is point farming, admit doing it, tell other people how to do it. ok, big deal. my problem with your tactic is that by witholding supplies, UAV and artillery you are making your team more vulnerable and more likely to get killed, and the more they get killed the worse their stats get - doesn't matter if the team is winning or not. and don't think for a second people won't try your idea in any server, any map, and # of players, clan servers, just to get more commander points, and in the mean time my stats are suffering because my commander didn't show me that there was an enemy squad sneaking up behind mine and we got wasted just so the commander could keep the game going. if you have any other ideas on how to point farm please keep them to yourself.

Bird... you didn't read the thread well enough. The OP intent was to give advise on how to acheive a ribbon.

He's not saying "Don't use supplies or UAV." He said to help more with these assest when your team is loosing. And, UAVs on bases that are taken (and/or being taken) are more helpful in the grand scheme of things anyway because your team's goal is to take flags. (The game is more offense then defense.) Arty should be used sparingly anyway, because the other assets are more useful to the team.

Not that all that matters because he's only talking about how to get a ribbon. But, if that means that he teamkills me less with arty, puts supplies and UAVs on bases that my team is attacking... then so be it. I have no beef with that. Hell, I'd actually like it.

say if your engineer, its better for you to order an engineer to repair the arty than doing it yourself, as you dont get repair points. in order for a commander to maximize his final score he should only really be doing scans/uav/supplies/ordering people, as killing enemies with art reduces the opponents tickets and therefore shortening the round. but anyway i just do whats needed, always got the uav up and responding to requests...
