Granted, my Kinetix 3DSMax certification was done about 6 years ago, and I haven't really done any 'serious' mesh making in about a year... but here's my work to back up my mouth.
They're for a game, so yes... low poly counts (don't remember the numbers, as I said... over a year old) and you can see the obvious use of tri-vertices polygons. Also, untextured.
A light Cruiser... smaller ship under it in the first is a fighter.
Battleship... cruiser is underneat it, with other ships for sizing, in the first.
So, yeah.. obviously I know nothing about modeling, low poly or high.
Everyone calling me an idiot, and wrong... put up, or shut up.

If that's what you're trying to say, then well... that's just a dumb thing to say. Seriously. You see all the rounded trim on that PSG1? Did you even look at the detail of that model? You do realize that every bit of detail is at least 3 polygons, minimum, right? If you tried to make a model that detailed to use in a game, having to use polys with 3 vertices, you'd end up with two or three times as many polys.... Follow me here... where he could use one poly to make a square, you'd have to use two.
Although, your statement is true to a LIMITED degree to a lower quality model... but there is no f'n way in hell one highly-skilled 3D artist can make a model of 6,000 poly's have the minute level of detail that a model has with 186,000 polys. Just not possible, untextured or textured.
6,000 vs 60,000.... MAYBE... and I'm still doubtful at a X10 loss of poly detail. 6,000 vs 12,000-18,000? Probably...
Just in case I'm wrong, I dropped an e-mail to a friend of mine who works for Rockstar. He also worked for Sir-Tech at one time, doing 2D for Jagged Alliance 2 and 3D modelling for Wizardry 8. I sent him every comment I've made. I'll throw up his reply, right or wrong, when I get it.
