    avoid "bigpond" ranked server.

I dont know if youve seen it but if you ever see the "BigPond" ranked server dont bother trying to join it.

Apparently its for "bigpond" users only and they kick people automatically who arent "bigpond" users.

I dont understand why they bother displaying it on the ranked list at all.

Also they in no way explain what bigpond is. Apparently its some ISP in Australia that if I ever move there I WONT be using.

BigPond is run by our bigest telecoms company here in Aus. Telstra.

I use to be a bigbond broadband user but i left them last week cos they were just a crappy evil ISP..

They use ping checkers, if your ping is over a certain rate they boot you off.

A lot of Australian ISP's are using this and country code scripting to try and localise the people who are on their game servers.

They find that people with high pings are simply killing the servers and causing bad lag for everyone else.

Good. It's like here in New Zealand when we get some retard American with a ping of 1000+. Why dont you play on your own local servers?

Bigpond is an ISP in Australia which hosts the GameArena network. GameArena has over 20 ranked servers for BF2, and literally HUNDREDS of other game servers, with thousands of player slots. As subscribers to that ISP, we pay for these servers indirectly. We do not wish for our servers to be clogged up by overseas users - you have your own servers!

It is no different than a clan server reserving the server that they paid for, for their own users. Unfortunately due to the sheer number of players who are part of that ISP, they simply can't password the server. They do it the easy way, collaborate and get a master-list of IPs who are currently online and filter out anybody else.

The fact of the matter is that of the 22 servers (776 player slots) that GameArena run for BF2, only ONE of them is reserved for Bigpond users. Next time get the facts before you run off on a misinformed little rant.

I just look for EA Official US servers so I am assured that they update stats I've had some bad experiences.

I wish people would take the time to check out thier pings. It seems alot of players just join what ever server with out checking the ping. I can understand how you don't want us over there woop some arse, it's cool.

Its not a matter of asswhooping or otherwise, its trying to keep servers we pay for, for ourselves.

Lol this argument is made every time in every game.... how could someone with a high ping possibly lag the whole server? They may move around weird because of the lag and that may be sufficient reason to kick em but they cant lag everyone else...

Ok OK, I didn't make any assertions about the ping of international players, simply the validity of questioning a kick from servers they don't play on. There are millions of subscribers to Bigpond, and there is no way that there can be a distribution of the server password to every single one of them.

"Here's your ISP login, here's your cable modem oh and here's the password for the BF2 server"

Get real! Realtime IP monitoring and filtering is an effective means of keeping bigpond servers for bigpond subscribers - what's so hard to grasp about this?

Ranked servers are not allowed to be passworded etc but duno why Hel$tra - BigPuddle is alowed to have servers protected by cogs or bigpuddle members only...

Same as when the demo came out they hacked it and enabled all the unlocks and time limit off in the servers....

I'm just glad I don't have to pay for a server.....

I like to see how people play on different servers.

Mozo: I think it might have something to do with GameArena being a Trusted Partner of EA and being allowed special privliges. Remember, they're hosting EA's $40,000 BF2 comp?
