    Help!

    What am I to do?

I have BF2142 and NS installed but I deleted the EADM cache files a long time ago because they were taking up space on my HDD!!!

    **** YOU EA.

I'm researching California's commercial code right now. This area is of particular interest to me:

      COMMERCIAL CODE
      SECTION 2301-2328

      2306
      (2) A lawful agreement by either the seller or the buyer for
exclusive dealing in the kind of goods concerned imposes unless
otherwise agreed an obligation by the seller to use best efforts to
supply the goods and by the buyer to use best efforts to promote
      their sale.

They need to justify how their "best efforts" is going to cost $5.99 in my mind. I don't recall reading anywhere when I bought 2142 that the price of the download service was subject to change.

      *edit

I just fired off an email to EACS. Let's see what they have to say. (Don't worry, not holding my breath--I know I'll get several canned responses before I actually manage to get a real person.)

It sounds like you still have the games installed and it won't let you download them, EADM only has the option to play. Check this thread out.

Has anyone considered that backing it up now could actually make no difference, because EA could basically disable any games your account after the 6 months expires and then hold you to ransom?

Yeah but how are they supposed to tell between people who backed it up and people who didn't?

I don't see how they could get away with that, there can be no doubt that the games was bought as a "permanent" license.

I re-downloaded Northern Srike by renaming my bf2142 folder. Is the setup file the only one i need to copy?? (im guessing it is as there isnt any other files after the download)

I just submitted this thread to StumbleUpon, so that will generate a lot of publicity for what EA is doing.

                      setup.exe, 164.123 KB
Using EA link it was in a folder called "bf2142_bp1", I don't know if that is still true.

Its now in a folder called 'bf2142_bp1" but just called setup.exe (160 MB or 164.123 KB or 168,061,633 bytes).

EA Link is gone, instead they replaced it with the new EA Store and EA Downloader. I thought cool, cool back to the beginning, so I went looking around. I found a game I was interested in so I add it to the cart, when I check the cart theres a extended download service?!? Now wait a minute, whats this, I have to now pay an extra $5.99 to purchase and download it? No it gets better, I open it up and it says that you only get a 6 months to redownload your game before it expires and that for 5.99 you can expand it up to 2 years, plus there charging tax now. So since this got started the default purchase date was set to the launch of the new downloader, all my stuff that I purchased before now says I got it on 9/17/2007. So does this mean in six months if I need to redownload my expansions again I need to buy them again and pay 5.99 to allow me to download them for the next 2 years!!! EA gets all the profit already from EA Link, but now they want more WFT!

**IMPORTANT EDIT** While the new arrangement sucks with EA and some are pointing out that it might just be very illegal, I just finished downloading NS and its turned out to be a regular old fashioned executable setup file from which I could install NS without problems. This should make backing up simple as hell!!

Go to your main HDD (C:\) and find

                          C:\ProgramData\Electronic Arts\EADM\Cache\{#########}

                          for example Northern Strike is:

                          C:\ProgramData\Electronic Arts\EADM\cache\{ do not share this # }\bf2142_bp1\setup.exe

you'll see clearly labeled (thank you for once EA) folders which contain now (not back in EA Link) setup.exe files which you can burn to disc. WOOT WOOT!

Guess something good came outta this :P
I havent played special forces in EONS for bf2. Just downloaded it the other day and payed nothing because I ALREADY PAYED FOR IT. Just had to use the EA downloader instead of EALINK wich i think is dead already?

That's true, but 6 months after 17 Sep 07, to download it again through EA downloader you will need to pay $5.99 (which will give you another 2 years to download) unless you back up your downloaded files.

Yeah, so if that "eon" had extended 5 months more, you would suddenly have found out that you would have to pay to download it again, if not entirley repurchase it.
Bet you would have been happy to discover that, right b14ze?
