Remember the old saying: "with enough explosives you can revive anything!"

Tango..you forget, the people on the front page of the leaderboard probably RDX spam in FF off servers...hence they use recon most. Its not out of popularity lol..its simply because they have RDX. If you put RDX on support kits, you'd see that THAT becomes their "most played kit"

Eh....anyways, personally I play recon simply for sniping, and though I go alone most of the time simply because anyone else with me would give away my position, I am no less of a teamplayer - I will switch kits to revive some dude, and if i'm stuck with it I'll use it as well as I possibly can.

Besides, it gives me the capability to kill almost anything from any range, whats not to like about that?

Though I will admit, its annoying as hell to capture a CP with a sniper rifle.

Some good (and bad) points of recon have been brought up here (bravo!). I think noobs4brkfst hit on my point of veiw.... when pubbing by myself, I will tend to play as SL (the reasons are a whole diff. thread).

Now with 5 or 6 men in my squad, I don't mind A recon player... they can be very useful for breaking through/flanking an enemy position and distracting them, allowing my squad to move forward... the booby traps are very useful for guarding a lesser used flank so the squad can concentrate on a higher traffic route. Of course, blowing assets is always a big help... as SL though, that means a support has to accompany the recon past the front line to resupply him after blowing first 2 assets, which can become a burden (or C.O. sends a supply drop to the enemy base, which can be dangerous).

As far as the true recon role (going ahead of team to spot, etc...) I just don't believe the game sets up well for that, as mentioned in other threads, it's like the recon kit should have IDS rather than support.

Bottom line is unfortunately IMO I don't think recon needs to be played in as great a number as typically seen in pubs... a good player knows when to stop playing their fav. kit, and switch to what will most benefit the team at the time...

Most Recon players just play it for themselves, which is sad. A good Recon can be the best asset on the map, causing deaths and confusion. The perfect squad would probably be made up of something like: 2-3 Assault, 1-2 Support, 1 Engineer, 1 Recon (If no vehicles on the map, drop the Engineer). Recon can do multiple things, hang back and spot incoming/flanking enemies, flank the enemy and take them out from behind, or move ahead and create/find ambushes.

Any SL that demands/wants the squad to move together is... delusionally naive. A mass of red dots on the map calls the other team's attention, and one grenade taking out your squad is bad. A well-played squad Recon actually doesn't get a lot of kills; instead, they spend most of the time spotting the enemy. :)

though, i do beleive recons vital for any squad, most people were probly using it on that map for the APM's. there are a lot of those hookers out there.

i do play recon, but only when i feel like sniping, and the only reason i usually solo, is because i cant find a squad who actually uses teamwork. most of the time though, im slaughtering people with my clark, or making craters with my pilum

When I go Recon I do so myself. Only when I go in a supportive role I will join a Squad and support. But being Recon I prefer staying put.

I play Recon because I like the Lambert. I also like to blow the enemy's assets with RDX and use APMs. I don't snipe much, because I am not any good at it. I also play Medic and Engineer when necessary.

The people who play it usually aren't team players.

Recon is for the person who thinks he's rambo.
                  :thatsbad:

You are wayyy of target with this sentence...

I think that dude with Voss goes more to this 'rambo' class...

Yes there is snipers who can't play in squad.. But there is lot sniper who can play in squad effectively..

IMO you just have to learn how to do it, you can help your team a lot with sniper. You take the highground when your team is capping the flag, you spot the enemy(or notify team with VoIp), if you kill the enemy before he makes it to the flag to(possibly) kill your squad it helps a lot. Even when you hit him once you have caused enough damage so your teammate can finish him off with 3-4 shots.

After capping the flag you can leave some suprises for the enemy.

It's just matter of learnin how to play in squad as an sniper... :salute:

Re: Whats up with all the recons?

I think the recon can be very good team players. Lets say enemies are coming from toll station to take central camp, Since the recon can take out many enemies at once he can stand back and defend while the team moves to take ruins and eu-base.
The recon can ruin for the commander and take out those pesky walkers.
A recon may tend to go alone in active camo to take a flag but keep in mind that he is doing so for the team.
He can leave apm at flags to take out players who manage to sneak by your team, the apm can also work as a alert system.

Yeah, most are the useless lone wolfs. Recon will never be as useful as Assault or Support sadly.

2 recon + 2 support = no enemies on titan ever

recon is far from useless, the sniper can be used to single handedly defend a silo/flag from attack saving the job of 5 other squad members, I managed 3 headshot badges on one silo alone defending with a sniper while others were elsewhere.

Re: Whats up with all the recons?

I realize that the majority of people on here are conquest players, and while recon may not be important in that aspect of the game, Recon is one of the most vital kits in the game for titan.

For attacking- Recon is the most efficient at destroying consoles and the core, and also reasonably decent at defending the other attackers (dropping claymores to cover hallways and such.

Defense- With c4 and claymores, a good recon player cannot hardly be beat, especially if he is running with a supply. Between c4, claymores, sentry, clark, makes for a hell of a defense....

But not only is recon useful for being on the titan, it is usefel for defending silo's from infantry and tanks

I am not a recon player by a long shot.....usually engi, medic, or supply depending on the situation, but ther are times trying to blow a console with a pilum that I was wishing that I had recon. (This is if the titan shields drop and I am runnin the engi kit)

it all depends on who is using the kit. You can have really useful recon players and you can have really bad recon players. I just dont like recon because people use the kit and rely on the APMs/ RDX scrubby explosive weapons to kill thier enemies which is not skillful at all.

well if i'm recon the half of my kills are from explosives but i dont use them agresevily but as self defence. you are pretty much ****ed when you dont have them and the enemie suprises you. the lambert can own some noobs but it is sometimes just like the scar: you cant beat someone even with hitting everything.
