Whats up with all the recons?

seriously, it seems like every server I get on in the past few weeks, I'm on the team that's 80-90% recon...

Now, I'm not trying to diss people who play recon, but as I mostly play city maps, I can find no valid tactical reason for 12/16 people to be recon, and not surprisingly, the team almost always loses. There are some darn good recon players out there, but even they know when to give it up, or at least pick up a med kit to rez the 4 guys who just got nade spammed...

anway, that's my thoughts, what gives?

    I don't like recon.

The people who play it usually aren't team players.

Recon is for the person who thinks he's rambo.

I used to play recon aot when I first started out coz sniping is a good way to get a feel forwhat goes on in the game - you observe alot ( I was rubbish) so maybe there are a lot of low ranks playing as recon?I think sniping is well hard compared to engie;there is no way I would average anything from 50-120 points plus playing sniper per round

I haven't noticed any more people going for recon.

I've used the recon kit by far the least out of the 4.

Its fun, but i just feel useless with the sniper or lambert

And the satisfaction of reviving and healing isn't something I can give away.

It's a one of those unspoken battlefield rules:

The team with most snipers automatically wins.

Snipers are the ultimate stat padding kit (not counting vehicles, etc). It's very easy to find a nice nook in a city map and rack up quite a few kills without being in direct danger yourself. Not to mention you can also APM/RDX whore while being recon.

Personally I think assault with the voss is more rambo-ish then recon though :|:

Really? I'm starting to see more of a variety of different types of kits in my region.

Most of the people on the front page of the leader board has recon as their most played kit. I have been using this kit a bit recently, and I had almost forgotten how easy it was to get kills fast.
APM is usually two free kills, RDX can be very usefull in some situations and the Lambert Carbine is a very good weapon.

Remember the old saying: "with enough explosives you can revive anything!"

                      I disagree, 100%.

The Recon class does not play support roles, such as healing or resupply, thus you don't depend on them for anything. Engie is needed to deal with vehicles, so perceptions are that they are 'useful'. Recon is an aggressive class and it is easy to leap to a conclusion that they are somehow "playing for themselves and not the team."

This is a fallacy. They destroy commander assets, Titan consoles, and make life hell for armor. They also use sniper rifle and Lambert to kill the enemy who would otherwise be looking down his sights at you.

Your statement is a gross generalization which can't be proven as fact.

I have noticed that when I'm joining pub squads, there have been a very high number of snipers. More people are using Recon as all-around aggressors. This is not my specialty, though. I'm normally Engie or swingin a Clark around.

There is a truth in it tho'.

                            Here's a place w/ A LOT of insight.

                            Basically a recon can:

                            1. Snipe enemy players, but that comes at the price of largely decreased cqc ability and it is nothing a good assault player can accomplish with a SS baur or PK rockets.

                            2. bring his netbat along, but with a otus drone drone you won't really need that because it scans every 5 sec and we also have the dystek meter and the new IPS to detect and track enemy players

                            3. with camo+rdx he has the chance to destroy vehicles, but that is a job a good SL can accomplish by either requesting an emp+o-strike combo or either requesting a kit switch or even demand at the beginning of the round that s.o plays and engi. And with the new IPS and the old support netbat I would rate an engi as fare more effective against every kind of armor than an rdx-recon.

So the only thing a recon does is to be a "jack of all trades, master of none" class which is fine for a bad managed squad or lonewolfing but I always would prefer a 3-4 assault, 1 engi + 1-2 support squad over one which changes the engi in fav of a recon.

Recon surely isn't a bad class but it is the one which tends to allure lone wolf players or those who are overconfident in their sniping skills or the effect their sniping has on the battlefield. So recon is a class most squadleading people don't associate with good teamwork, which sadly holds true with most recon players.

Beside that most squads (just watchs arghs 4 blitzkrieg video) tend to move forward in a rather fast pace, because they wont be slowed down by apms and that mean a sniper in a squad will find itself either engaged in cqc or close to midrange battles more than often unless he breaks away from the squad coherency, which is frowned upon by SLs and tends to result in either ticket lost or unnecessary squad fragmentation. The other option would be to go lambert. But unless everybody else has none of the engi unlocks, so that the squad really needs s.o with rdx, a lambert recon is a mediocre assault player without a proper gun, a med hub and the ability to rezz other players.

So unless dice makes sniper HS instant death and not crit wounded there is no reason for playing sniper in a squad in 9/10 times, because any good enemy squad will reanimate fallen players faster than you can snipe them and apm clearing with the zeller isn't that needed when 4 out of 6 players are med-whores like our SP-SR/SM/SL fellows

Also, since we're on the subject of team players; A high ranker isn't always a team player. Even most clan members aren't. You only really see teamplay when you're in a match.

I recommend match play to every1 it will push you and form you into an excellent team player.

Its a very linear way of thinking about the Recon kit. You are only refering to the equipment.

The word itself, RECON, move again, scout the location, spot distant enemies. Cause high damage with sniper rifles. Defend paths with APM's, or defend a flag with RDX.

Oh, and a recon can easily demolish a well established squad (like Argh's... I would say), APM and RDX's can be pesky buggers, and can eliminate whole squads on a flag, and the assault and support class can do nothing about it. And how often does an Engie carry the defuser?

You do have the concept correct that many recon players tend to be lonewolves, but they can clearly be far more team orientated than you think.
