My mouse is 1600 dpi i think. But i am still considering a better mouse, something with extra handy buttons on the side so i can draw my defib faster than anyone in the west. ZAP and SHOOT :)
Why does the Baur have a full-auto mode?

Being a part time dyslexic, my finger just mashes the left click when I see a guy pop up in front for me.Oh yeah, it does rock when doing that, but if someone pops out in front of you you might not have time to switch firing modes or hammer the LMB fast enough (although I guess it all depends on how fast you can click) for the kill. That's why I like to leave it on full auto unless I know I'm going to be picking on people at range. Four quick clicks to bring a guy down is very gratifying (not to mention conservative, ammo-wise), but that's not bursting, it's rapid single-shots. I loved the SKS Simonov in BF:V exactly for that reason, but at a lot of medium-range distances (I'd say between 30m-50m) you will get smeared by a full auto weapon *cough*Voss*cough* that can successfully burst at that range before you can single-click fast enough, but if you try a two-round burst the second bullet seems to just evapourate before it even leaves the barrel so you can't rely on that.

I agree, I rarely ever use automatic fire unless i'm completely in panic a foot away from the enemy. In all other scenarios when i'm set to auto, i use a quick mouse click tap to simulate a 3 round burst.
Considering real-life counterparts to a futuristic AR you would compare the BAUR to something like a G36 variant ... so there is obviously reasoning behind the fire modes.
That said, i'd love a 3 round burst mode =P Even if it's a 3rd mode...Comment

A higher DPI mouse could help (I think mine runs on 1000), but really it's just a matter of learning the technique more than anything. Just like bursting, recoil compensation is a developed skill; although you may be able to manage it when practicising against some barrels, under the stress of a real enemy encounter you might just panic and spray him.
I incidentally took note of my Baur play last night (where I got a typical score of 23-2), and managed to note down my general procedure when I encounter an enemy:
1. Immediately freeze and crouch on the spot
2. Aim for the upper body and head
3. Begin firing two or three shot burst
4. Pull downwards to compensate for the recoil so all shots hit around the upper body and head
5. Repeat
6. If the enemy or myself isn't dead after three bursts (RARE), I sprint behind the nearest solid cover to reload and prepare to start the process again
This of course happens very quickly, and I've usually gotten off multiple bursts before the enemy can realistically respond. If they're not looking at me they're pretty much guaranteed to die, even at sniping distance (although I lessen the bursts to single shots in these cases).
Works for me, anyway. I was very taken aback when I realised how much more effective I am with the Baur than with the other weapons (my previous favourites being the sniper rifles and the standard assault rifles). It's like an amazing blend of the sniper rifle and the assault rifles. Only four days after unlocking it I'm regularly hitting kill:death ratios of 10:1, as opposed to more like 3:1 or 5:1 with the other guns.
Much love for the Baur here!Comment

Honestly, everyone should know that by now.1. Immediately freeze and crouch on the spot
2. Aim for the upper body and head
3. Begin firing two or three shot burst
4. Pull downwards to compensate for the recoil so all shots hit around the upper body and head
5. Repeat
6. If the enemy or myself isn't dead after three bursts (RARE), I sprint behind the nearest solid cover to reload and prepare to start the process again

They should, but the title of this thread would imply not. It's aimed at anyone that still doesn't understand the fundamental use of the weapon, clearly.
Interestingly, something I was thinking about the other day is that I find the Baur reminds me a lot of the special forces weapon(s) in Battlefield 2.
The way I use it is very similar, as a kind of assault/sniper hybrid; clearly Dice thought of the gun in a similar role, as they ended up literally splitting special ops into the sniper rifles and the Lambert.
Like the Baur, I found the special ops weapons in BF2 fairly good at close range, devastating at medium range, and able to be used to pick off extremely distant targets like a sniper.
Am I the only one who thinks this?

Reading this thread made me remember how fun the Baur is, pulled it back out last night and had a blast with it on Berlin (though my team lost 'cause they were 'tards - seriously, that map is so well done it's a shame it had to get ruined by making it the unbalanced "Assault" type & the utter impossibility of getting past Crossroads against a team with three total brains to split among them).Comment

What I was getting at with the semi-sarcastic title was that it seemed as though even when two-round bursting and pulling down for recoil compensation such that the red dot was still on the target, it seemed as though the second bullet simply never hit, and felt as though it never even existed in the first place. :pThey should, but the title of this thread would imply not. It's aimed at anyone that still doesn't understand the fundamental use of the weapon, clearly.

I mainly use the Baur on semi-auto when I'm 99% sure enemies wont be coming at me, like on the monorail on Belgrade or when I'm on top of the command center at Cerbere Landing. But when I'm on the ground near an enemy flag I am always full auto, but I'll switch to the PK rockets if I see one further away.Comment

Played with it more last night and had a blast again, but I think Wolfgang might be on to something here. I tried to pay very close attention to using two-round bursts and watching to see if I could tell from the hit indicator whether the second round was hitting or missing. There were several occasions where a) the enemy was close enough to me and b) wasn't moving and c) I controlled the recoil so that the scope dot never left his body, and STILL had to use four two-round bursts to kill the guy.
That said, I never seem to live long enough to actually run out of ammo so I don't think I'll start really using single-shot at all, but I wanted to throw those $.02 in.Comment

learn to control it and when to adjust your mouse as soon as u fire
i knw every1 is worried about OMG accurasy im noob if it aint high and all that nonsence but a gun can be a distraction aswell fire a few shots at a wall and the enemy might back off like wtf is there 2 maybe?
but it has its uses once u have "mastered" itComment

I have over 2500 baur kills, and I can tell you that the double-tap is by far the most effective method.
I have tried EVERY strategy with that gun, going through them all, one by one, and noting how well they work for me. I decided that in the name of science I wouldn't care about making my accuracy stats crap. I'd just try to learn how that gun (and others) really worked.
Stroking the mouse down as you fire is great for when you use full auto as you are advancing on the enemy. One situation in which you might do this is if you are storming Central Camp at Camp Gibralter, and you come from Toll Station through the smoke that constantly drifts up in front of Central Camp.
You walk through the smoke firing and then home in on a figure as soon as you can clearly see one.
Generally though, you have it on full-auto, and time the mouse-press so that it fires two rounds (as if you'd done a double-tap on single-shot).
Aim at the chest, and with the kick the second shot will often be a head-shot. Crouching helps a LOT.
Oh, full auto is VERY good at finishing off damaged FAVs, as the Baur's rounds each do so much damage.Comment

Alright, this thread is a couple of days old but I have something to say: For those of you seeking to learn the best way to use your weapons I recommend that you go into an empty server and do a little practice.
Find a wall you can easy hit from about 30 meters. Set your Baur to single shot. Now, unload the whole clip one at a time trying to hit the previous shot's hole. Do this as fast as you can while taking careful aim. Now, try again with full auto. After that, try some variations, or respawn with a different rifle.
You should notice that the first two shots are very close to where you aimed. The third and forth shot start the ever expanding outward movement of your deviated fire. It is important to do this so that you KNOW how it works. The Baur is optimized for singleshot or short bursts. I recommend two-round bursts when possible as the third shot will probably miss and the forth will definately miss unless you are an accomplished marksman.
Because of the programmed shot deviation, this weapon must be tightly controlled when on auto fire. Also, the Baur has deviation penalties while moving forward/backward which greatly reduce your ability to hit your mark. However, it has the FEWEST deviation penalties for left/right strafing... Think about how you can use that to your advantage!
I'm serious about the practice firing of your weapon. Once you know what to expect from your rifle, the better marksman you'll become. See you on the battlefield, soldier.
