        @ COD2 discussion

I still think Call of Duty 2 was the best COD ever. Bolt-action rifle gameplay was awesome, especially on Toujane, Tunisia. I loved how the game was simple and had faction-based weapons.

What a great game. We need our new games to come out with such simplicity.

Reviewing the single player of a battlefield game is kind of redundant. The only reason the new releases of BF games even have SP is to try and break into the market of CODtards that love SP campaigns.

I've never played a BF single player game and don't plan on it any time soon, not what the game is for imho.

I only buy games with a multiplayer or map editor à la ArmA II. Without the multiplayer ability a game loses it's replayability and becomes a "Renter" kind of game that you only play for a few weeks.

Wish DICE had put all it's effort into making a proper BF3 MP experience instead of spreading their time over a campaign and MP. We could have 2 very good version of BF3, one for consoles and the other for PCs, but instead we got this mix-breed that sucks.

For some reason I played through yet another part of the campaign.
What a stinking pile of uengaging I-cant-see-shit-but-I-sure-can-smell-it.

And yet some people think it is good? I simply can not understand that?

I liked how the story was told. I liked how it was presented to me and the ending of it.

Yeah, it had its flaws while playing the game, but what kept me playing was the story line.

Of course I also liked the MW2 story even though there were obvious plot holes. I look at the story for what it is and I tend to ignore what could really happen. Im in IT and most the things you see in movies with computers are flat out wrong, but you have to ignore that or the entire movie is ruined and destroyed because of it.

                  Re: Zero Punctuation on BF3

I have no problem with unrealistic effects and that sort of thing. Glaring plot holes annoys me, but thats not the problem here either.

No, in every cut-scene I sit and think "Just get to the point G - D it"
And when we do get to the action, it is often just as annoying as the cutscenes.
In this case I just finished operation Guillotine, and I really hated it: I could not see the enemies, and my teammates kept blocking my line of fire.
The start of comrades was just as bad, it didn't take long before I hit Alt-F4 out of frustration.

The experience is vastly inferior to decades old shooters like e.g. Soldiers of Fortune, MDK and the old COD games. Immersion is broken and the gameplay is uninteresting.

What used to happen was that i sat back watching cutscenes, when suddenly a "PRESS E" button appeared and i was like: aaw crap....

It wasn't great, but I enjoyed it. The problem that I found IMO was that they were trying to make it play too much like a book or a movie and not like an immersive game.

^ this probably sums it up. It was not great, but i enjoyed it, even more than the MW3 campaign i can say that for sure.

                          Re: Zero Punctuation on BF3

I think what made the single player a little much for me was, like Yahtzee pointed out, that about the fourth mission it became very obvious that it was designed to show off frostbite.

I think there were three missions where I walked through a doorway to have an RPG come by and just miss me and blow up a car. Showing off explosions and lighting.

Something like four missions in darkness with lights flickering and shadows. Showing off lighting and shadowing.

At least two missions where we fall/fly thorugh clouds. Which BF3 has the best looking sky I have ever seen in any game.

Then the fire fights where you have to use cover that gets shot up. Showing off the destruction.

I know we complain about the quicktime events, but everyone also knew that SP was designed for console players. How do you have a hand to hand fight on an FPS game? Maybe they could have made it like a boxing game instead. Certain buttons block and punch. Others kick and grab. IDK on that though.

I think the only good SP DICE did was with Bad Company 1, the story was funny and you had big maps, the only problem was the easy mode auto respawning.

Yeah, too complex for dice to code and for console players to play it that way, so i guess they just took the easy path

Well, its either that, dont do them, or make a cut scene. I always felt QTEs were a way to play in the cut scene instead of being on the side lines.
