No, I kind of expected it to be this way.
Actually it confirms that retail games can be registered to Origin, otherwise it could not be an requirement.

Does this change anyone's plans for buying the game? I was going to cancel my Origin preorder and get it through Amazon if Origin wasn't required, but now it looks like I will stick with Origin.
