The original CPU posted the q9550 is still a nice CPU. Mine is overclocked on air to 3.85ghz and has been since the day they were released.(My Temps run in the upper 90Cs under load and I only run one case fan) I believe the newer versions are a bit better. I do agree with some of the comments on it though. If you don't plan to OC it I wouldn't purchase it.
I never advise anyone to build a system or make upgrades before a game like BF3 comes out. If you've got the money to blow go for it. It's not a problem for some people to make a mistake. People probably wont go wrong buying the more powerful video cards that have been released recently.
