Well, maybe not because of CoD for you. I guess Im wrong there... but russians as the enemies of the US makes me want to kill people IRL these days because it feels over done...

Well they need to pick up current nations with strong armies, so yes its allways us, china and russia. sometimes the british appear and german but thats more into WWII
why not putting in the portuguese?!?! they suck but imagine if in the future they become one of the strongest armies!?! :laugh:

We need to go after Switzerland and Sweden. Attack DICE HQ and all that.

No they don't need to put the nations with the strongest army to make the game interesting (not a crappy nation with machetes though), if the US is always here it's because of marketing, to please your standard american player.

That's why I liked the setting of BF2142, refreshing setting and equipment. I'm sick of the sempiternal M16/AK with the US vs evil Russia/Middle-East. Homefront tried the chinese invasion approach but then changed to North Korea to not upset the chinese... I also remember PoE2 with Germany vs Ukraine and some others mods like that.

Thats just another excuse everyone throws around. I have never heard of any american gamer not get a game because the US wasnt in it. The thing is the world is obsessed with the US in their news and everyone thinks thats how it really is. I havent been to many contries, but so far 100% of the news had huge US coverage.

I saw a study of somesort a few years ago where it showed the number of gamers around the world and the US was like 4th or something lower.

Now maybe developers believe that, IDK, or because our media shows more things and of the US world involvement, so the US is the choice.

Id prefer itd be NATO forces, but then whoever played the NATO side would just stand their waiting for permission to engage while they get base raped

If only tensions werent running high and DICE had the balls to use china again. The PLA were an interesting choice, and it worked actually. Not too many other modern war games feature China as a playable faction (notice how I didnt say "Antagonist"?)

It's not really obsession it's just the US has a strong influence on the world (military, media, etc) since the WW2 due to their power and the US have no real counterpart. But if China become all powerful in fifty years and the US go down you would see a **** tons of games with chineses as heroes and I would say "damn I'm sick of fighting as China with type 95 everywhere". All I want is some variety, and if there's not this variety it's mostly because of marketing.

As for the numbers of gamers it's maybe true the US is only #4 (though I doubt it, are you sure it's not in percentage?) but not for shooters. I still think for the FPS genre the first nation with the most gamers is the US.

And I agree, I want to see that too. But as you say, its because of world influence, not the american gamer, as you said earlier.

Wouldn't stop me from buying and playing a game just because it didn't include the US military. Be a challenge to kill the enemy with rocks and sticks.

Well it's true to some extent, just like others countries have the same and/or different flaws...

But talking about video games I could point out Japanese games, they include a myriad of countries (not african countries, they don't like blacks/arabs), you're not stuck with the same things over and over and it's not rare that you don't hear anything about Japan in their games. The japaneses are simply more respectful and open (I'm talking only about their media right here).

Yes, by all the movies/games/books/etc I've seen, from blogs and personnal acquaintances, hell even my uncle is married to a japanese woman. That's also why I know trying to picture Japan by watching their media, visiting Japan as a tourist and living and working in Japan are different things.
