    Re: Updated Facts

someone's gotten their hands on the copy of the GI issue.

    http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=421095

Okay, so going through the article:

-Aiming for CY Q4 2011 release
-Concept for BF3 has been in the works for years, waiting on proper tech to seamlessly come together
-Frosbite 2.0 is the culmination of this tech, entirely re-written
-Lighting sounds neat, one "probe" contains more lighting information than an entire BFBC2 level.
-Level destruction is going to be "believable" but basically everything is destructible.
-Character animations powered by ANT, what EA Sports uses.
-AI characters and multiplayer characters have different animation sets
-No more "gliding" animations that look off, animation realism is a focus
-Captured their own war audios (bullets, tanks, helicopters, etc) at different distances to ensure realism
-Better audio cues for certain actions, more easily able to listen for threats
-Plan on better, more immediate post release content
    -More unlocks than BFBC2
-Dice trying to find a good balance between customization of your character and not having "pink rabbit hat(s)"
    -4 classes
    -Will talk about squads "later"
-Looking into a theater mode but can't talk about it
    -Will have co-op
-There will be a kill-cam but it can be turned off
-BF3's team is almost twice as big as the team for BFBC2
-They want the pacing of the single player mode to be balanced, with highs and lows. Makes the comparison to a song vs a guitar solo.
-Part of the single player mode takes place in Sulaymaniyah - Iraqi Kurdistan.
-"****" will be used often, so M rated for sure
-There will be an earthquake in a level. The destruction sounds very impressive. 7 story building collapses, looks very well done
-Significant narrative that goes with the SP mode
-More than one setting, you're not in the middle east for the whole game
    -PC version is lead version
-Why 64 players for PC only? No complains from the console crowd.
-No mod tools at release. Maybe none down the line either. Frosbite 2.0 is complex and mods tools would have to be dumbed down, so does Dice really want to put their time to that or would it be better spent elsewhere?

    Okay, that's basically it.

      Re: Updated Facts

The singleplayer if it's true looks like something BFBC2 (campaign with it's own levels) and not what I was hoping, maybe it will look good but it diverts ressources from the multiplayer even with a bigger team.

-4 classes / -Will talk about squads "later"
Oh god, I hope medics don't carry lmgs this time... I also hope for 6 men squads.

      -More unlocks than BFBC2
Hu okay, I'm not sure if it's really a good thing seeing the whole team with different weapons. Unless there's specific unlocks per factions?

-There will be an earthquake in a level. The destruction sounds very impressive. 7 story building collapses, looks very well done
      Solo only I guess.

Looking into a theater mode but can't talk about it
Can't wait for more snoken like videos.

Looks epic except for the mod tools.

BAUR fan checking in. I am with you man, I still have my screenshot from when I was #10 in the world with the Baur. I stopped playing 2142 shortly after that and didn't pick it up again for almost a year. I did manage to work my way back to #106 though. I really hope there is a gun with similar characteristics to this in BF3...it just suited me. The Voss seemed to be regarded by most as the better gun, so when me and my buddy wiped out squads of Vossers they always cried 'hack'

It was the first gun I unlocked, and even after unlocking all the others it was the one I always went back to. Ridiculous close-range power, just-big-enough magazine, and medium-range sniping capability. I also never used the PK rockets, I used the shotgun attachment...it was perfect if you found yourself in too-close quarters near a flag. Baur Paur Haurs were always a blast. I haven't played it in almost three years though.

            Re: Updated Facts

The medic class will have a mini-gun this time!

If there is only 4 classes, I wonder if they will change Recon to Special Forces(C4, explosives, sniper), have Support(ammo bag), Assault, and Medic. This layout although not as good as BF2 system would still allow for teamwork to be required between them. Sniper class would be Special Forces...

Recon sounds to much like BC to me and I feel with BF3 system of destruction and large buildings, it will be a class more surrounded by the use of explosives than snipers.

I think they should just do it the way 2142 did it... that worked for me.

I dont... well because I never owned 2142...

I used to hate it, but thinking about it later on, I was young and Biased. Its an awesome concept.

Anyone see the High-def scans, they said a sound will cue you if your gun is about to overheat. It's probably that sizzle sound but perhaps the LMG's will overheat to balance them. It could also just be for Tanks, etc but since BF2 had it I wouldn't be surprised.

if LMGs overheat, like in 2142, then it will be a good way to keep the LMGs in check

man if that mechanic was in BC2, medic would mostly be fine lol

Any word on VOIP or the comm rose?

Without those it's kind of a tough sell to me at least.

Hardly anyone uses VoiP in BC2 it seems. It makes me a sad panda. I generally only use a mic when I'm playing with friends and then we just use skype or summat.
