Well the part they play is much diminished compared to BF2. Vehicles were easy enough to take out in BF2, they're even easier in BC2. First off since the maps are so small (again, I haven't played this game since September so if they released some non-chokepoint maps besides Atacama then I am unaware of them) and there's so many places for infantry to camp, ambushing a tank or IFV is easy enough already, then you add the ability to plant a tracer and allow any of your teammates within a 50 yard radius of the vehicle to be able to home in on it and fire a smart missile at it is insane. It's clear this game was made with the people who *****ed about the USMC tank in Karkand in mind, because they wanted vehicles to be an almost non-factor. They're useful, but nowhere near as useful as in BF2.

Also, the movement is sooo much better in BC2 in terms of smoothness, BF2 player models moved very erratically and buggy. Sure there isn't any prone, but the movement in BC2 is definitely an upgrade. I agree with you about the weapons though.
Well I will concede that infantry movement was far better in the earlier versions of BF2 before all the 'can't shoot while jumping, can't shoot while standing, can't crouch to get up from prone, can't jump if you haven't double-knotted your shoes' patches. Before, though, the movements were fine.

Health regen is fine with me either way, in my opinion, but the spawn immunity was patched out... Slugs are good, but they should be able to hit people from across the map. The perks I don't care much about either, although I would definitely be fine without them.
Ah, didn't know they patched out some of the immunity. Is rez immunity still in? That pissed me off more than spawn immunity. Nothing worse that shooting at someone and having him rez someone right in front of you so now you have an invincible enemy and another you can't hit due to the meat shield.

Take tanks as an example. Imagine if you had a BC2 tank with all the perks installed; coaxial MG (one that doesn't take two seconds of sustained fire to off a single infantry), smoke, and quick reload. Now you add in more armour so that it doesn't die from two RPGs all the time, and take away the soldiers' ability to magically make heat-seeking warheads out of normal dumbfire RPGs by using a gun that shoots a blinking pink light thereby allowing them to shoot enemy vehicles parked on the other side of a mountain. Granted, hiding behind a half-height brick wall won't stop tank fire anymore (but metal crates still will...ph34r t3h m3t4l cr4t35!!!1!), but I'll give that up to no longer have the equivalent of the Meteor spell from Diablo 2 put into a BF game.

Personally I actually like the health regen. It is pretty slow, so you can't hide behind a rock for a few seconds to get back full health, but it does stop you from bleeding out when there's a long way to a medic. One of the most frustrating experiences in BF2 was probably being bodyshot by a sniper and you try to get your way back to a medic or something but then you die from running down a hill or sprinting down some stairs LOL. If someone sneezes on you, you're dead. BC2 stops that while still keeping medics a very powerful, if not the most powerful class, even if the LMG can be a bit bulky sometimes.

Spawn immunity is a bad idea all the way through and I'm happy DICE patched it away for the most part. The perks... if you can even call them that, I really thought I would hate them at first, but it works out pretty good. Gives you some choice in how you want to play. Smoke for evading tracer darts, motion sensor for maps where infantry can get really close, extra armor if you're terrible. :p I wouldn't mind them to be gone either, but I'm really not bothered by them. They're all very balanced and there's nothing quite as game changing as the CoD perks.

While I occasionally miss the larger maps in older BF games, BC2 does a lot of things a lot better. I agree with Kyle in that infantry fights in general feel a lot better, weapons feel more fair to use as they don't have the built-in inaccuracies to the same degree like in old BF games. Destruction makes vehicles that much more powerful and scary to be around, not even walls can protect you!

Hopefully BF3 takes the best of both worlds. Good feeling infantry combat, destruction and large scale battles.

Also there is one MAJOR difference why while infantry combat may be somewhat better in call of duty, with prone and lean. Which is you can't memorize that maps, yes there is part of the terrain that doesn't change but that's just largely the ground.

While there is parts of BF2 I still want in BC2, there is more and more I realize that BC2 has over BF2 for me.

And please while discussing what we like and dislike about games this similar is that not everyone will have the same opinion, will not give each feature the same importance.

All we can do is have reasonable discussions until BF3 comes out, and if those discussions are mature and everyone realizes that their vision of the perfect battlefield game isn't the only version that everyone will want.

That'd be like having the USMC in BF2 start out with AK101s instead of M16s. I'll say it's definitely easier overall to survive in BC2 because there aren't as many random variables like vehicles or artillery strikes, but that doesn't really make it a better game, in fact IMO it serves to make it less interesting and far less dynamic. 24/7 servers in BF2 have more gameplay variety than an allmaps rotation in BC2 (well, maybe not with the Karkandites).

I'm honestly hoping they take as little from BC2 as possible when considering BF3. I don't care much for auto-regen health, I don't like SMGs that can plink people from across a map like you can do with the SCAR or UMP, any immunity of any kind should go (well, I can live with spawn immunity in an uncap), and personally I prefer a good old health bar to the paint splatter you see in BC2. I could live with paint splatter, but if I had my choice I'd go with a quantifiable health system. As much of a shotgun wh0re I am, I'd prefer there not be a slug upgrade because I feel extremely cheap when shotgun sniping, and I hope they don't do 'perks' like extra damage or extra armour. I'm fine with upgrades to ironsights or extra mags of ammo, but explosives perks and the like do not belong in BF3.

Of course that is your opinion, for me, in that case i would go play cod if i wanted to play infantry

" (Or in other words: No Jets )"

this is the part i agree. if in bf3 there is no prone or jets, believe me i will not buy it (atleast at launch)

By "superior gameplay" I mean that BC2 has better infantry combat.
Terrain better suited for combat, better squad systems (although I miss the commo rose), better balanced classes and vehicles better balanced with regards to the game as a whole (Or in other words: No Jets )

It is an overall more enjoyable experience

As for the wider aspects I would agree with you for the most part, but I don't think you can compare the two games and say ones "gameplay" is better than the other. Not only were they different types of games, but you're talking about two different types (large maps, vehicle combat vs. small maps, infantry combat) of gameplay. Both games have these elements but each one has a little more of each than the other, and they both capitalize on their strengths.
True, but I was responding to what Vreki said which was that BC2 has superior gameplay to BC2. I realise that BC2 is basically the bastard child of the BF franchise (as far as the PC audience goes, at least) and I personally can't believe I was able to stand playing that game for over 100h like I did, but otherwise I wouldn't even bother comparing the two games.

Now if only they could patch up the hit detection, and combine the two games and then BF3 would be pretty awesome.

Comparing it to BF2 gameplay-wise is like comparing filet mignon to a bowl of Corn Flakes.

Regarding BF2, you will have to face that the game is obsolete. Last time I bothered to install it, it was an awful mess of 200 people running around and dolphin diving outside karkand. Not much different from NukeTown in Black Ops.
IMHO both BF2142 and BC2 have superior gameplay.

Do you really think they are going to dial back years of evolution in gameplay for BF3? I give it 50/50 that there will be no prone in BF3 either, in which case I am going to laugh my ass off.
