I've started on normal, since thats what I always do, and the AI is ****ing devious especially on the campaign map.

I started as Shimazu, tense early game but ended up properly spec-i-a-l-i-s-ing my regions and can produce beastly armies (units starting on 6 exp etc ha), never did capture the black ship, think some ****er destroyed it lol

I've reached realm divide now, had to be sneaky about it, basically got myself into a 3 way alliance with some other large powers but wanted to kill em, so basically forced them to declare war on me (by attacking someone they liked but I wasn't allied to) thus I got to mow them without losing honour

however sort of gotten myself bogged down just west of Kyoto, so many enemy stacks lol, I only have 2 main armies, a few powerful garrisons (cos the AI does naval invasions lol) so I might have to risk it and use them, lost about 8k revenue a turn going to war because of realm divide ha. Resorted to liberating a few clan regions, they then become your vassals, but I sweet talked them into attacking my enemies

no crashing or fps problems and way better than the demo, I love it so far hehe, even the siege battles are fun and the naval battles are oddly satisfying (especially when you use mines!)

took a few screenshots, not the best but a few good ones hehe, shows the AI actually builds dam good armies etc

        Re: Shogun Total War 2!

The game is amazing!!!!!! Not that buggy at all! "Peasant spear/bow" units will break fast but samurai will hold longer. The sea battles are actually fun to play which is a pleasant surprise. Enemy ai, both campaign and battle is improved, not perfect, but very improved. They might do sumthin stupid here or there. I had the enemy general charge me and die (suicidal general) he did charge my calvary with no infantry around but non the less his army was behind him and he died pretty much sealing my victory. Diplomacy is handled better. I cant seem to turn on AA i think you need a direct X 11 card to do so. Runs great on my 9800GT (everything max w/ sum stuff turned off , vsync off, no AA, default unit size) but i'm upgrading to a 550ti just for the performance boost so i can max everything out turn everything on and have massive battles and use the largest unit size without any stuttering. There is alot of cool lil things ill let you see for yourself! I didn't pre-order it but i picked my copy up at gamestop.

          Re: Shogun Total War 2!

          -Performance brilliant
-CAI, much better/BAI better (only playing on hard)
-Looks a lot better for the performance impact. I Can run this pretty much maxed out, not something I could do with Empire on the same rig.
-Navel combat is really fun, much more about boarding and capturing ships rather than destroying someone's navy.
          - Pretty big campaign map.
-Nice additions to the tech tree and character attribute tree.
-Troops move a lot faster, die a lot faster and are hard to retreat safely. All this leads to much quicker and intense battles. Battles feel a lot more smooth and refined.
-Sieges play a lot more like normal battles, which is good, you're troops can pretty much scale any walls (although they fall off a lot), burn down gates or towers and do a few other things. You can get spe******ed siege equipment, but it feels a lot smoother having infantry be able to actually scale the walls if you want them to.

The only thing that is really bugging me at the moment is that you may start with a large swathe of territory but it will nearly always just be 1 city. Like France in Empire for example so you always have to have a full stack around it to not get wiped off the map in the campaign. Makes it very annoying when a rebellion spawns for example and you are out trying to take another city as so far I am finding it pretty much economically impossible to maintain 1.5 stacks and have a huge food shortage.

I would have liked it a lot more if there were a lot more smaller towns that you could capture, rather than 2-3 towns attached to you're castle.

Overall, it is like all TW games I suppose, a few nice changes here and there but nothing to really shake up the series of impact on the gameplay that much. So it is a decent game in its own right, but if you were looking for something really new to the TW series this is not exactly it in my opinion.

Anyone had a look at the multiplayer yet? Also, is there a clan that has taken over japan already?

*edit* Worst game release ever, Getting a Bluescreen after the splash screen, Seems like im not the onlyone. No word from CA yet and the best fix so far is to 'update the Bios'. What a load of bull.

brought an old 65 year old general out of his retirement, let him sit in a nice big castle manning a hefty garrison (the AI liked to naval invade it) and have unleashed him, hes 5 stars lol, although his army has no archers ha, just brute force infantry and cavalry ha

otherwise, got a Geisha on the loose now, Kyoto is so close I can taste it

                      Re: Shogun Total War 2!

What difficulty are you on, ive been try the Uesegi campaign on hard, and im thaving to defend seige after seige, dont have the money to build an army capable of taking a province, due to having no money. Although, it was funny seeing 2 takeda stacks seiging me one after another, then after i destroyed them in 2 turns, takeda suddenly accept peace. LOL and then date sending 2 stacks . and then just after i fend off a stack from satake, i get the ikki ikko attack me with a large stack. FML

I am finding the campaign AI more agressive and when it comes to seiges, smarter.

I was on normal, always start on normal in TW games

not sure if I will actually go for hard since I don't like how it just gives enemy units in battles better stats but I intend to try it out, I think I might go for the Chosokabe next as I really enjoyed my Shimazu armies with cav archers, but am gonna take all the provinces in Japan in my Shimazu campaign first, as I have only just gotten the ability to recruit hero units lol (will need to sort out the finances ha, was losing 3k a turn for a long time ha, lots of money reserves)

I might got for Date though, defence and attack through terrain features etc is more common east of Kyoto I found out

Alright, so I got to actually put some time in the game and I love it! There is a lot more going on and you have to consider a lot of different things for generals, agents and your daimyo. One thing I just found out is you have to use your daimyo for battle. Well, you don't, but his honor really suffers. In Shogun 1, I just let him sit back and relax as the rest of the army fights.

I did have a little stutter after a few battles. Same thing happened in Empire. I don't know what the deal is with that.

Anyway, its an excellent sequel for sure.

The Takeda clan is giving me fits. They did that in Shogun 1 too. Cheeky bastages.

They did ask for peace, now that I crushed their main army and all they have are smaller units scattered. Thats a nice change. I remember in ALL the other TW games they would never ask for peace.

hehe it is so much fun, even the battles and especially siegies, I love sieges now ha

I started a campaign as Date on hard, man they have a lot of ground to cover, basically allied myself with the 2 main powers to the south, Uesuegi and Hatakeyama (I think) and they are a sort of buffer, they sort of getting a but hammered so I have started launching some attacks, work my way down the coast to the areas with gold mines and rake in the £££

out of curiosity I started another campaign as Shimazu on hard just to see the difference and god the AI is fiendish haha
you have to grease their palms so to speak a lot more in diplomacy and if you are weak they will treat you as such, I managed to get a few friends but neighbours who thought they could take advantage certainly would go to war

I was more or less handling it, battles on hard are still fun :) and I was fighting off their armies but relying on overseas trade. Just when I was getting comfortable with the situation and felt I could destroy my enemies the ****ing wako pirates show up with their devil spawn and boom, home port blockaded and bankruptcy hahaha, will be more careful in my Date campaign now I think ha

the game on normal is really good as it is, might have to try legendary and see how quickly I get annihilated ha, I like shimazu too much lol started another campaign on normal as them, try some things differently this time hehe :)

but yeh if an enemy is being all cocky and not going for peace, annihilating a powerful army of theirs will quickly change their mind, let alone burning a few settlements to the ground

When you say burn, do you mean sack the province or put an army in a town in the province?

My best general got sneaky on me and caused me dishonor. I had to have him commit sepuku. Though that set me back, everyone is walking on shells now acnd my honor is high.
