haha yes, as is the way with every total war, endless hours of "just one more turn lol" (holy **** 5 hours later)

I managed to get the demo downloaded last night after much annoyance (had to use the irish dl server lol)

on my rig, i5 750, 4gb ram, 1gb HD4850 the game auto set literally every setting to high/ultra (BUT I dont think it was using AA will have to check) and all at 1920x1080

it ****ing ran wonderfully in the historical battle, I was so busy admiring the beauty, looking over the HUD and trying everything out I didnt notice the enemy cavalry plowing into my arches lol

I got massacred, but it was a lovely massacre :) time to try the demo campaign hehehe

got a HD6950 coming tomorrow as well ha

I think AA is disabled in the demo, I couldn't select it either.
But the 6000 cards can do Morphological Anti-Aliasing, so you might be better of using that anyway.

hehe had a lot of fun with the campaign, auto resolves the battles ofc (except for about 3 total) but its still a lot of fun to get to grips with everything

So, a general TW question: It there a way to tell your units to not break the bloody formations, or I will hunt them down and kill them myself?
I just tried the Medieval II demo too, and I don't get far into the battles before it is just a bunch of disorganized peasants running around braveheart-style.

Oh, and Steam is updating the Shogun 2 demo now. 400 MB i hear, but mostly a new intro and some AI optimizations.

as for formations, you mean they run off and chase after people?

Yes, and the formations break when they engage the enemy. I kind of expected them to stay in formation until they were routed, like a Greek phalanx or a Roman legion

Are you using spear wall vreki? did you also notice the moral bar on top of your troops(keep troops together)

I cannot believe the mods on this demo already,I have blood mod and two others.

in medieval they arent really like phalanxes/phalangites/shield walls, a lot of the soldiers like armoured swordsmen will just brawl and kill eachother

some units such as armoured sergeants can make a shield wall formation which they will stay in, but its only a defensive tactic, its not like rome where you had the phalangites moving in cohesion (that was the whole basis of greek warfare really)

And that is why Greek style combat and phanlax hoplite were never fully re-emerge ever again in history. No, Landsknechts and Scottish Shiltron are different things. Medieval knights are more powerful than catafracts, and infantry weren't armored as well in Classical Ancient period.

And they didn't have Zweihanders in ancient Greece, maybe ancient Gaul, but not Greece.

I cant seem to beat those dishonerable traitors in the historical battle. Ive came close a couple times, but every time I just barely lost.

I think the key might be the calvary placement.

Check TW forums there are threads and vids on how to win, last time i tried i was only about 300 men short of victory.

One week from now we will be conquering Japan! So, no demo talk, how come? It suck? Its great and no need to see more? Anyone tried it that have not played a TW game before and what did you think?

Its OK to say it wasnt that great for you, not everyone likes TW and how its designed.

The only bad point come from lassitude, I feel I already played it after playing all the TW games even with the improvements, but yes it will be good nonetheless. I hope the multiplayer is good too. And I need a mod to change those damn unit cards.

Yeah, I agree with it seems like the others. I hate to say it, but this will probably be my last TW game. I love playing them, but I just dont see them topping this unless they get into the American Civil War, which I dont know how well that would go throughout the world. Nintendo made some great Civil War games.

Those unit cards are hard to figure out. The all look the same. It takes time to figure out what card is what and thats time my men dont have on the field!
