When does the divide happen? Like at 30 captured areas?

Also, Ive kinda locked myself in and I need a way to attack an "ally" without losing honor. We only have a trade agreement. How can I do this? I dont think I can cancel the agreement and then declare war. Pretty sure thats a no-no.

hehe a darthmod, will have to try it at some point, vanilla Shogun 2 is great though so not in a rush

yeh massive swarms of enemy stacks are hard work, in my first campaign I had to quickly make another stack then won some absolutely epic battles and siege defences, it reached a point though where I broke the back of the enemy resistance, destroyed their main stacks etc and basically kept pushing before they had time to reinforce, once you get east of Kyoto there are typically some nicely upgraded castles and its easier to defend, the north and south routes are by the sea and easy to defend cos of the mountains, while there is a small central mountain pass through the middle

going west there are some good castles by the coastline that make defense of kyoto a lot easier, you can pretty much block access with two castles, one on the north and south coastline

naval invasions get tricky though so you always need naval cover

I restarted a campaign, the realm divide pretty much own you the first time when you do'nt know, I had all trade nodes, each at full capacity except the far eastern one with only 2 trade boats, I had like 15k turns and yet all the swarming managed to kill me. I was in 1560, I think I could have won if the Sagara didn't suddenly betrayed me.

Now I will build every money making buildings possible, take all nodes right away and max them, not take too much settlements and then blitz to Kyoto with 4-5 stacks at once. Oh and wipe Sagara as soon as possible and won't rely on diplomacy.

theres a realm divide mod that I know about, bet there are more at twcenter

shogun 2 short and repetitive? :o

but yeh the trophies don't always come up, must have to be some sort of uber heroic victory, I have a few on the map currently

the black ship is one tough mother****er, I can literally take on entire enemy fleets with just the one ship, and its sort of random when it shows up in the campaign, the first campaign I played, I got the message about it sailing around within the first 20-30 turns, my latest campaign it was 1580ish before I saw it ha

I threw a few fleets at it originally, but got destroyed (didn't have drydocks so no cannon bunes etc) I did weaken it a hell of a lot though and the pesky hatana captured it, so I basically left it alone as I traded with them

alas when I took Kyoto, they got mad at me and I managed to capture it in a pretty epic battle by spamming it with fire arrows and laying out a very nice minefield for it to sail into hehehe

    now I rule the waves

oh and some nice eye candy

the nihon maru (big ship you can recruit when you are shogun) ablaze!

oh yeh and as for hero units, which even though they only have 40 men in a formation still OWN, seriously bow heros killing 400+ guys, katana heroes killing 200+ guys with 1-2 casualties ha, you got to research to the very high levels and get the highest type of the building (there are no cavalry heroes mind) then you can recruit them

Yeah diplomacy actually works in this one, until the realm divide come. After I finish my first campaign I'm going to download a mod to lessen the effect of realm divide and stop the AI from spawning full stack of veterans out of thin air.

There! Now you are ready for BF3 :wee:

There is nothing console style about the TW series. The game has never been on a console and the game has more options and decision making than any of the other TW games. Yes, if you played one TW, you know how the game is going to be. How different did you think it was going to be?

As for the trophy on the map. Ive had many heroic victories and no trophies on them. It is nice and all, just wish I knew how they come about.

I didn't saw the black ship, I read you probably need a naban port, which I don't have since I don't want to screw with religion. You captured it with how many boats, I heard the ship is really powerful.

How do you build the hero katana? You need to upgrade schools?

if you get a heroic victory you sometimes get the statue on the campaign map

have another shimazu campaign going, captured the black ship wahahahha

captured Kyoto, but other than that only have me home island and 2 other regions, so I didn't get realm divide from lots of land, moreso invading the home city of the shogun haha, the city is basically constantly under siege lol

thank god for me hero katana samurai and hero bow samurai hehe

I defeated the veteran army (can't remember the name's clan, a blue H on a white flag) and sabotaged their town and they only had one market, how could they recruit a stack of veteran samourais/yaris (exp 6! Same for their Daimyo!) without the necessary infrastructure or battles? I smell cheating from the AI, I don't like when the developers resort to that, I just hope there's not a bunch of others stack of doom.

Yeah I saw the trophy too (heroic victory?), I think it's a nice thing, more realistic.

I beat a clan that was invading and now there is a trophy on the map. I dont know what the deal is with that.

Another cool thing I saw was I was attacking a castle and it had a steep side. So I put my archers all around for cover fire and sent some yaris up that side. After a while, they started falling to their deaths! They would crash into another one or two and take them with them. There was a litter of bodies below and I lost about 30 or so men during that climb. They even screamed to their deaths.

Fortunatly, I still took the castle, so those lives were not in vain.

Just began the game since two days, I took the Shimazu clan and it was pretty easy until the "realm divide of doom" kick in. I have 2 full stack, 3 full trade node (8 tradeboat per node) and I'm quite sure I can repel any invaders and bleed the coalition armies but it sound like a mindless fighting now. I think I'll start a new game with another clan and go power economy from the beginning and focus on diplomacy.

There's some strange thing though, like a former allied clan with only one town for a long time, it was a weak clan but now they're against me suddenly they gained a stack full of über veterans (5 chevrons+), what the heck?!

nah I never sack, just capture a settlement or so, or start burning some towns etc, if you can obliterate an enemy stack (army) then they will soon think twice about staying in a war with you

haha yeh have had to do that a few times, it can actually cause a rebellion! I chose not to make one of my generals do it once and it got me dishonour and something like -50 diplomatic relations for 8 turns ha

When you say burn, do you mean sack the province or put an army in a town in the province?

My best general got sneaky on me and caused me dishonor. I had to have him commit sepuku. Though that set me back, everyone is walking on shells now acnd my honor is high.

hehe it is so much fun, even the battles and especially siegies, I love sieges now ha

I started a campaign as Date on hard, man they have a lot of ground to cover, basically allied myself with the 2 main powers to the south, Uesuegi and Hatakeyama (I think) and they are a sort of buffer, they sort of getting a but hammered so I have started launching some attacks, work my way down the coast to the areas with gold mines and rake in the £££

out of curiosity I started another campaign as Shimazu on hard just to see the difference and god the AI is fiendish haha
you have to grease their palms so to speak a lot more in diplomacy and if you are weak they will treat you as such, I managed to get a few friends but neighbours who thought they could take advantage certainly would go to war

I was more or less handling it, battles on hard are still fun :) and I was fighting off their armies but relying on overseas trade. Just when I was getting comfortable with the situation and felt I could destroy my enemies the ****ing wako pirates show up with their devil spawn and boom, home port blockaded and bankruptcy hahaha, will be more careful in my Date campaign now I think ha

the game on normal is really good as it is, might have to try legendary and see how quickly I get annihilated ha, I like shimazu too much lol started another campaign on normal as them, try some things differently this time hehe :)

but yeh if an enemy is being all cocky and not going for peace, annihilating a powerful army of theirs will quickly change their mind, let alone burning a few settlements to the ground
