    Re: Shogun Total War 2!

Well its more the development of rifles imo. In the Napoleonic period and prior, it may seem suicidal now but forming in ranks was the only real way to kill your opponent with a mass volley of fire as the muskets were just so inaccurate and took a long time to reload.

The development of the light and heavy machine guns completely changed the dynamic of warfare where now a squad is based around the LMG, along with armoured vehicles obviously making cavalry redundant.

But I agree, unless they actually bother overhauling the engine and AI for once, sticking with mele combat is a better idea.

yer, would be a lot harder to the game in a more modern setting than Empire or pre WW1, although would be awesome if they could do it

Rome Total War was my favoutire, with stuff like Extended Greek Mod etc

I just hope their next games more moddable compared to Empire

They have confirmed there will be No integrated mod tools. Something about how they are changing a lot of how their coding works or something. Im sure people will find a way as ever, shame they just have to huge such limited tools :\

Shogun 1 was an amazing game for it's time, im glad they went back to there roots! Total war does Melee combat the best but that's because it feels so much more epic. 10,000 men fighting with swords, spears, etc rather then everyone just having arrows(guns.)

I have never played the TW series. Looks interesting. I like rts games like World In Conflict and the Command & Conquer games. How does the TW series compare in terms of gameplay with those two? Also which TW game is a good place to start or which one do you guys recommend.

                        Re: Shogun Total War 2!

Its more like C&C but you dont build buildings during the battles. Its turn based on the maps. You have so many moves and you build your armies and land during that time, then you attack or defend an area and it turns into a real time battlefield where you control your units.

The one to start with... Shogun 1. Only problem is that it doesnt run very well on new systems. Not at all on mine

I dont know which one you should start with otherwise. I didnt like the medieval ones, but it seems most people did. I liked Empire, but it seemed many did not. I love shogun. The End.

Maybe watch some youtube videos of battle and you will get a better idea.

                          Re: Shogun Total War 2!

Medieval Total War 2 is the closer you can find if you don't go too far in the tech tree (cannons, muskets). Of course even closer is Shogun 1 but it will burn your eyes and I don't even know if it works on XP/seven.

As for Shogun 2 I hope it will be good without mods. It's like Battlefield, good potential but the vanilla version have a lot of small problems and a wide margin for improvements.

It will run on XP with some crashes and a bit of tweaking. No on 7

TW poops all over them! more tech for adults and a level of realism with real battles settings and history elements
