They weren't refrained by some rules of honor, that helped.

Not to worry. Obama is going to install a "team balance" button in the Oval Office so all US forces will be evenly matched with opponents in the future.

Heroes come from winning an uneven fight or fighting a losing fight.

That's where courage or determination lies, of course, to the opponent, it could be just stubbornness and stupidity.

There is always an ROE (Rules of Engagement) for NATO forces. There will be individual ROEs for difference parts of the military also. Usually under NATO ROE you are required to use minimum force necessary. If not just to maintain your alliance with NATO you'll want to follow the ROE for other reasons.

The more people we kill the more enemies we make. If someone killed my cousin he would have made a good 20 or more enemies.

The Afghans have defeated both the British Empire and the Soviet Union, both had superiority in training, manpower and firepower. The United States was defeated by a force of pajama clad insurgents that had neither air support nor armor.

Having a will to fight is sometimes greater than having the ability to fight.

As long as the superior army is unwilling to commit genocide. Some insurrections has been suppressed by sheer brutality, but that doesn't look good on TV. But now you are talking about war crimes, ROE, the Geneva Convention etc. These are all about stuff that is deemed to brutal even in a war, but it does not have any concept of "Fair Play" with regards to matching the armies evenly.
And I will have to say, I don't think that concept has ever existed on the real battlefields.

Well Redink, the United States' military is the most powerful army in the entire world. Capable of fighting two major wars at one time, which was well demonstrated during WW2 with the European and Pacific campaigns.

No military stands a chance alone in a conventional war against us.

The "Rebels" as you call them are just amateur men with light caliber weapons and explosives. The only advantage they have is the knowledge of the terrain. Since this is a computer game and the circumstances are very different from real life you can't expect it to be realistic. Even ArmA 2 scenarios aren't realistic and that's the most advanced milsim out there.

This is not completely true. In an insurgency the insurgent combatants are usually very committed to the cause. A high level of defeat or large amounts of casualties can have the reverse effect and can further commit the insurgents to see the war through. They basically have little to lose. Since it is their belief that they are doing 'God's work' they are willing to die and even revel in the fact of dying in the pursuit of their goals.

The American military by contrast has none of those kinds of motivations. In fact, they are motivated by almost contradictory goals in the current wars.

There is a better than even chance that the US and coalition forces will be defeated in either Iraq or Afghanistan or both.

Maybe he don't think guerilla tactics as conventional war, but more like a WW2 etc where you face the other army head on.

And I don't think the mujahidins are really amateur, they had their fair share of training against the soviets.

What part of "conventional war" did you not get?

I don't think there is any conventional military that would want to engage the US in an all-out slugfest in this day and age. That's going to be changing in the next few years as Russia further reconstitutes its military and China continues it growth - which is one of the reasons cancelling programs such as the F22 is so insane.
