We were hacked. Several times over the past two weeks, in fact.

Only the default (TGN Light) theme for now. Dark them is also coming back soon. Then CSN. Then Wrestlin' Nation. A lot of WIP stuff right now. There are a couple of things still not working either. Sorry.
The AMD Community is entering an exciting new phase—growing into a broader ecosystem of dedicated resources designed to better support and connect you.
I recommend uninstalling all ATI stuff, reboot, and reinstall the latest driver and see how it goes. The last post in that thread is very extreme, but you could do it first just to get it out of the way.
Until your drivers are correctly functioning, I would not worry about your resolution.
on the off-topic: yeah Crunch for prez, guy has such a manly voice he makes me squirm.
On topic: Never discard the possibility of upgrading your motherboard drivers too; improved bus stability and what not; most of the time that takes care of your sound drivers and network.
So I've updated some stuff so far and got my video drivers to work, with no luck at all at gameplay.
I still lag no matter the settings I put it at, but all LOW and crappy res I don't as much, so it's barable. So I'll play it on that until I figure out wtf is going on.

Thank you all for your help!
No,no,no, we are not done.
OK, so now all your drivers are up to date? All of them? Even your wireless and NIC drivers? You are 100% sure you are on SP2 for Vista? You updated your chipset drivers as well?
If you answer maybe or I think so to any of those questions, you need to go do it again, just to be sure.
by chance could the laptop be throttling? i've heard when things get hot they throttle the cpu and gpu.
Oh, thats a good point as well.
Also, Grounded, the DXDiag told me your BIOS was version 1.0. They may have a newer BIOS for your motherboard, if you are adventurous and want to update it.
No, I do not Jake - I'm not that cool. WAHEY! (ok, bad joke)
So like, I got bored of trying to find all the crap I need to update and went to play some BC2, loaded it up, connected to server, then got a white screen instead of select weapon screen, and got a "Driver failed ro respond then restarted" type error and CTD. Tried again, and this time instead of white I got a black screen and my PC froze and had to restart. This now happens everytime. I just think it's one of the side effects of what is actually wrong? But why wasn't it happening before?
All the answers I can think of are theoretical tbh :p
What I am concerned about is that you rolled back the system. The DXDiag shows you have SP1, but the OS says it has SP2, which thats not a good sign with any OS being confused about what service pack it has. You could be fighting some other issue with your system with who knows what.
I emailed you the links to the drivers for your system.
Yeh, that is pretty weird. I might just resore to factory settings or something and go from there. I'm in need of one of those aswell - too much crap that I don't want any more which I cba to get rid of
