Re: Fragcast interviews DICE on BFBC2
The rest of the interview is awesome two; for those that have tl,dr syndrome:
Trigger: There are a lot of misconceptions, thank for clearing that up. We know that BC2 will not have a mod tool, but further down the line we might get one. We know that even for Desert Combat, you guys actually bought the modding studio and used a lot of their staff to help make BF2. Is it possible with some of these mods, such as the Battle Recorder and Tournament mods, that you guys may work with an outside modding studio or do you guys want to take control of the game yourself.
Anders: I would say that is a bit beyond me. I think any modders: companies or individuals, we are already interested to working in collaboration with anyone who has a good idea. Either an admin tool or stats tracking or what not, it is all where we have mutual benefit.
And another:
Trigger: You mentioned earlier how people said we are missing some things like Battle Recorder, and one of the thing we as a competitive community have also said is Battle Recorder to be in BC2 and mods, we used to make our own mods to make the game competitive and let the developers give us the game, and we would put in the little things like readying up, weapon unlocked, infantry only. We would be the guys customizing the game to how we want to play, now that we don’t have that. Tell us a little bit about the decisions to take out the Battle Recorder and mods, and maybe the possibility to add them in the future.
Anders: All decisions are based on votes. If we all time and resources in the world, we would basically listen to all the players in the world and try to accommodate it. In the end, we need to see what we can do for the overall experience, and start on points there. Some of the features that you mentioned about BF1942 were not there at launch. The infantry only mode and etc, and the Battle Recorder was there but a bit flaky. The product has evolved, and we are going to look at feedback from all gamers: clanners, regular players, competitive community. Then we will decide internally, what we can accommodate. That is the only answer I can give at this point. It is not that we want to ignore or not do it, we just need to do the whole balance thing internally.
