Fragcast interviews DICE on BFBC2

I allow myself to quote two very interesting bits in my opinion; first:

Trigger: It is amazing what you can see the players do. UAV videos, kamikaze techniques, and other odd exploits. People would blow up their own crates with C4, or they would load a UAV. We have heard that first you are going to raise the health bars on the crates in rush mode, and we have also been hearing you are going to force players to plant. What are you guys going to do with that exploit specifically, so that people don’t keep using exploits like blowing up your crates?

Patrick: There are two angles to that. The first one is for the beta, yes, the value was too low. It was actually already corrected for the main game, but the thing is for the beta, we really needed to release it and finalize it a bit earlier. So we basically separated the beta from the main game so that we can be sure to work in parallel. So that was an unfortunate thing that is already fixed in the main game, and that is basically going to be the same amount of difficulty on the console. You should not be able to exploit it. On the other hand, I find that the thing where they blow up their own crates fascinating because it was a valid tactic. It is one specific base that they tend to blow up their own crate, and the time to blow up to make sure that the enemies are gone. They take the tanks and drive them to the base, reinforcing their own forces, and keeping the stolen tanks alive with repairs. I think that perfectly what Battlefield really is because that is using the elements and then it is up to the different factions to make sure they do not steal the vehicles. That is definitely a Battlefield moment itself, but we do need to make it harder so that it does not happen all the time.

    AND:

Dreamgirl: I just wanted to know if you guys were going to add toggle crouch and strafing?

Patrick: This is a discussion we constantly have in the office. The whole misconception that we are removing stuff that worked perfectly, there are multiple reason why we are making changes to the game. The whole prone discussion is quite interesting, the whole thing is that is the wind has started to change for prone. People have started to see the benefit of not having prone in a game because it changes the pace of a game, I think. You can always argue that yes, it is better to have prone than not have prone. We, of course, are constantly monitoring the game to see if it works, to make sure in case we need to patch anything. We are not going to say what we are going to patch in the future, we are only talking about what we are going to do for the next patch. We will not make any changes until we see the game live, played with all game modes, all maps, on live servers. I am not trying to be an ******* by saying we won’t have prone, it is not that we won’t have prone. It is just that we, from our internal testing, that prone does not add to the gameplay. It changes the gameplay into something that is not beneficial to anyone. It is only beneficial for the person who is lying on a hill on the ground proning. It is better for everyone else.

Anders: The whole game is based on the fact that there is not prone, adding prone would be quite a huge design change. On the specific toggle crouch, I can’t say absolutely yes. We are looking into it, and we would like to have it patched in soon. But we just need to prioritize that with everything else we want to continue patching. That feedback from the beta for toggle crouch, we heard you and we are looking into it.

So I guess that finally settles it? There, from the developers.

I think DICE needs to play more on random public servers and less on their own servers with sane people.
Then they would realize that there is 100 instances of griefieng for each instance of clever tactic.

If you want "PrOn" in the game then you just need an early version of BF2142.
Before they patched it, it was possible to put you own images up on the ingame billboards. I am sure you can see the possibilities......

I dont understand this whole "increases the pace of the game", surely the pace of the game is determined by the players and the pace at which they want to play. Prone or not, if the entire team is full of snipers the gameplay is going to be a lot slower.

              This.

I've been wondering about that excuse the whole time. CoD games have a much faster pace than BFBC, and those have prone.
Now instead of lying down to camp, people are crouching behind rocks to camp. Same = same.

Everything works great until people are involved.

Looks like they were NOT in the market for a "tactical-style" game. They liked the fast, quick paced style. More action and stuff to do. AND trying to blend in some sense of team-tactics into the game. Maybe they can have both, at least in this game it seesm to work. I actually like the game because of the lack of planes and prone. Allows more infantry stuff to do. Good read.

I have to admit thats why I like it as well. Infrantry with vehicles and not having to worry about jets or helis with very bad air defense. Those helis can still dominate with the right people, thats for sure and I dont mind that because there are weapons that can damage it and not get blown up because the heli is out of view or range.

From playing the beta I saw FAR fewer examples of camping than in CoD games. Yes, there are rocks that you can hide behind that aren't destructible, but there aren't that many and there are numerous ways of clearing those people out quickly (grenade/grenade launcher, mortar, etc). For the most part, there aren't many places you can camp.

In addition, city maps won't have giant boulders and hills all over the place, so that won't even be an issue.

Now that we have a DICE developer advertising that blowing up your own crate is a smart tactical move we are going to have the masses of noobs thinking they know what they are doing and attempting this tactic. On a private server where tactics are taken more seriously this would be awesome. On the PUB servers this is gonna be a catastrophy. In either Case, I'll see you slugs on the battlefield.

I cant wait to see a city map. I wonder how destructable it will be and if there are multi-levels or are there going to be metal doors that cannot be knifed.

If IW removed prone from CoD, it wouldn't change much, if anything. The reason people camp so much in the recent CoD games can be explained really easily: KILL STREAK REWARDS. And for the latest iteration there is an even bigger reason people camp: latency issues caused by a listen server environment.

The new AvP doesn't even have crouch. Guess what...

BFBC2 doesn't have prone but people are still camping even on offense where it provides no real advantage. Urban maps might not have giant boulders, but I bet there will be some buildings that don't collapse or Hesco bastions to hide behind.

The point is: campers are going to camp. It's what they do. Crouching, lying on the ground, standing, flying in circles, whatever. THEY'RE GOING TO CAMP.

I agree, campers are gonna camp are gonna camp.........whatever. BUT without prone and with the killcam, at least you have a chance at finding 'em and taking 'em out. The game is about movement. Starting from one side of a map to another. Its about capturing points, and moving foward.

Maybe camping IS about KillStreaks. But then again, I have seen the TOP K/D players end up on the losing side too!
I would like to see an Urban Map, totally dark, with just NVG and HC Mode. THAT would slow 'em down a little.
