But being unable to hit a moving target is often a symptom of lag.

I see people complaining that they get blood splashes form the target, but not hit indication. As far as I remember BF used to handle blood/dust/whatever clientside, while the actual hit detection is done serverside. So that would again be a symptom of lag.
+1 ^ I've have not seen bad hit-reg once I've managed to achieve higher fps rates and started to use Crappy-Server-Browser™ by DICE.

      DX10(auto): Min / Max / Avg 53, 66, 60.316
      DX9: Min / Max / Avg 25, 64, 46.891

I didnt notice much difference with hitreg, but the game became almost unplayable under DX9 due to the screen constantly flashing.

^^^ Thanks for the info Vreki. I played a few games again under DX11 and my hit reg wasn't bad. It looks like something else might be causing the bad hit registration. Like I stated before, it didn't happen to me all the time but it was often enough to know there is a problem.

Not everyone is having so many problems. I always make sure to join a decent server, some even in my area don´t give a good connection.

I never get a ping below 80 really, usually play on UK multiplay servers. To be honest I have few problems, its not that bad in BF2 either. The delay can be noticeable, but hits do register.

Sounds like you are losing packets or something.

            Re: dice and hitreg

I believe most of the complaints about hitreg are almost entirely due to the quality of server you're on. Also remember they have patched the server side of things at least six times. So the experience you had even a week ago may be completely different now on the same server.

Try joining a low population server with 5-10 people and see how things run. I know I have been on some servers which, when starting with a few people, by the time they got to 28+ the hit reg seemed to go south and suddenly I was having a much harder time hitting people. While other servers, even under max load, the hitreg never varied for me.

There are some servers out there that are clearly underpowered and probably shouldn't be running 32 man or even the base 24.

If it were a hitreg issue why would it by that you can't seem to hit them but they can hit you? I would think it would effect your opponent as well

If the hitreg is really as awful as some people are making it out to be (I'm not saying it's necessarily perfect, but people do tend to exaggerate), it should be equally awful every person, leveling out the issue, making gameplay still balanced.

This reminds me a tad of how you get people complaining about someone is hacking because they got a lucky kill or whatnot. It happened on a server just the other day. Some guy went on a tirade how a guy on my team had to have been hacking. Well the guy finished the round with a score about half mine and I wasn't even playing my best (ended like 3rd or 4th on my team). You are never the center of the video game playing universe, just like you aren't the center of the actual universe. (FYI, that's a general "you" not someone in particular )

                So yeah...

                  Re: dice and hitreg

Hitreg is not equal opportunity. Some people just have stellar reg, whether it's their machine, their latency, their service provider, whatever. I've seen frag videos of people and noticed that they're not any better or faster or more coordinated than I am, yet they are getting kills on people in the same instances that I get dust or just random misses. I've had times (in BF2, not this game, at least not yet) where people were literally invincible as far as I was concerned, especially when jumping or sprinting, to the point that shooting at them was simply a waste of bullets. Or times where I've been prone and popping shots off at someone, they start an action hero roll and I die instantly. Is that lag? Bullets aimed perfectly at a stationary target's face do no damage to the enemy but I somehow go from 100% health immediately to zero health. How to his hits reg and mine dust if it's a server issue? How about those tank shots that visibly explode on the side of a speeding jeep without even scratching the paint, or the rockets that go clean through an oncoming Humvee? Is that also lag? I have 20/20 fibre optic internet with no TSRs sucking up bandwidth playing on a server under 40 ping and FPS of over 80 at all times, yet other people get instant kills on me and I'm dusting off of them.

So yes, some people can experience bad reg in games whereas others don't, and those same people can experience great reg in other games running on the same ISP and rig. BF2's reg was so horrible for me after the 1.5 patch that I simply quit playing. It became far more frustrating than fun when the enemy's shots were landing and mine would just bounce off.

Bear in mind that in case you don't lag maybe your targets are lagging (high-pingers compared to your ping, although they can have ping of 80 but that can be twice as much compared to yours 40)

I'm pretty sure ping is the issue.

I believe lagging yourself might even be an advantage, I was playing on a server a while back where everyone was jumping all over the place. I was able to run into the M-com kill 4-5 people without dying. I'm honestly not that good, but I think due to the lag, people weren't able to hit me where I could hit them.

                        *sigh*
                        You're completely misunderstanding the point.

I don't think you understand what we're talking about with "hitreg," that has to do with hitboxes and how they were designed by DICE. The OP is claiming that it's a design flaw and it's entirely his fault. If it has anything to do with "their machine, their latency, their service provider" then it isn't DICE's fault.

If the hitreg issue is because the game was poorly developed by DICE, there is no reason why it should happen more to some people than to others, it's impossible because everyone has the exact same game installed.

If it is due to any player-end issues, those of other players on the server, or the server itself, then it cannot be DICE's fault.

Either way, the OP's claim defies logic (i.e. that it is somehow DICE's fault).

edit: let me summarize one more time in case anyone misses my point. READ, DON'T SKIM: If there is a design flaw in the game itself (DICE's fault) then everyone will be experiencing it because we all have the same software installed. Thus, it would be impossible that you could consistently have hitreg issues while other people don't. It's illogical.

Not illogical, just semantics. If DICE, for example, designs a game with one specific combination of computer hardware in mind and it doesn't run optimally on an equivalent system (say, it works for nVidia cards but not ATI), who's to blame? The computer user for buying a different video card or DICE for not developing software which supports a multitude of modern systems? If someone was trying to run it on their Commodore 64 or Apple ][ and it didn't work, then your point would stand, but what about the other case? Code that's incompatible with varying hardware and systems can indeed be a developer's fault, so to throw out worlds like illogical and impossible is a bit presumtuous. Or you could argue that some servers have worse reg than others...perhaps the game wasn't well optimised and due to that there is packet loss. Who would be at fault for this lack of optimisation? I'm not saying you're incorrect, but it is incorrect to assume that everyone else is just off their rocker because you (seemingly) don't have reg issues.

But consider my other point; how can gamers that play other FPS on the same machine on which they play e.g. BF2 only have hitreg issues in BF2 and not the other game(s)? If it's not the fault of the developer that hitreg issues are present in half of their consumerbase, then it makes just as much sense to say that they are at fault when one game works as intended and the other doesn't. Moreover, if it's truly the fault of the user, how come hitreg issues are a major complaint and seemingly only a select few are immune? Discounting all the people who never post on forums and just play the game (difficult to say whether they experience it or not), look at how many people have issues with the reg. Hell, just look in this thread and you'll see what I mean. You're telling me that the OP, Chris_Redfield, Expletive Deleted, Nicfurious, Chaoszx, and Rambo are all to blame for their reg issues (FWIW, I don't have any reg issues in BC2 unless the server is majorly laggy, but BF2 and BF2142 give me loads of dust on every server I play on)?

Definitely not an isolated incident. I've tried running BF2 on three different machines now, with different hardware, and using different internet (earlier cable, now FiOS). I've done a fresh install of Windows XP and Vista and putting ONLY the necessary device drivers to run the system, and a BF game (either BF2 or 2142), and I still get reg issues. Basically taking a brand new computer and dropping the game on it and there are problems.

I have a PC that will run BF2142 on maxed settings... I've never experienced hitreg issues. If we want to bring it down to personal experience, there won't ever be a consensus since it becomes purely anecdotal evidence without being the slightest bit empirical. Of course, it's all subjective to begin with from the player's standpoint, so I have nothing further to contribute to this thread. :p

Do you think bf2's hit reg is bad?(not 2142)

If so do you think its dices fault?(ie.bad or poor net coding)

or do you stand by your ping statements?which i know contributes also!

this is not in anyway a arguement with you as i agree with you in part:salute:

Maybe these games play best on Lan connections and were designed on such and "lag" is all to blame even with low ping servers

I think you both make good points here and no one is wrong, coding could be better and ping could be better!

I've never played BF2 so I can't vouch for that game. However, the logic of my argument would still stand in BF2 if the circumstances were the same (you have trouble with hitreg all the time but no one else seems to).
